It's not unusual to hit cut when it's cold if you are already close. Denser air means you need more fuel.

How much boost are you running? If you're running stock boost, you likely have a small boost leak.

iam running stock boost, but it only does stock boost when its hot out, when its in the 40's and 50's iam hitting like 14, and colder it does 15+ and cuts out. how would a boost leak make me run more boost?

Could be a leaky wastegate diaphram, or the small hose that connects the wastegate to the turbo.

Factory boost is 6-7~ psi. What you are seeing is a lot of boost, even for a cold day. Is the wastegate shimmed?

What do you get in "warm" weather?

Stock actuators are 10 psi iirc.

Its not uncommon to have boost creap with a free flowing exhaust to 12-13 psi, and when its cold it'll easily creep to boostcut.

I thought stock boost was 11-12. thats what it runs on a warm day, no shimmed wastegate, no boost controller nothing its all stock except for the exhaust.

Tissimo, read the TSRM.

5.5 - 7.5 psi (Manual Trans)
4.8 - 6.0 psi (Auto Trans)

Free flowing exhaust, etc will raise it somewhat.

There was a time when I would hit boost cut very often. I found out there was a hole in my intercooler, you could hear the hissing sound where the leak is coming from.

I do believe that the stock boost level for the 1jz was between 10-12 Psi .. ?

Edit: I just read the japanese tsm .. doesnt look like there is a section that displays the stock boost level. I found that the actuators should be tested at .92kg/cm^2 if that helps any..

if you have an english tsrm please send it over!

But there are not VSVs on the stock wastegates and it runs ~ 10 psi stock, so I'm pretty sure they're 10 psi.

Agh! My bad guys - I didn't realize this was a JZ thread. Disregard - my info was for the 7M-GTE.

Sorry. :(

Supracentral is right my auto pushed like 6 maybe 6.5 stock then I got my mods got it up to around 9 then I added boost controller and set it about 10 it'll creep to 11 or sometimes 12 if it's really cold out.

Luckily with theb oost controller I can usually turn it down a bit and compensate so I can keep it in the 10psi range I like to run, I have a 3 inch DP, 3 inch High flow cat, and Blitz NUR Spec 3 inch cat back with intake, Spearco FMIC and hardpipes and a few other misc mods.

AFAIK the stock boost on a 1JZ with everything stock on it is 11.8psi. With a free-flowing exhaust on a cold day the engine should push a few psi more of boost. I would say hitting fuel or boost cut is not out of the question at all and nothing to worry about. (just let off the gas a bit)

LOL i was about to say whats going on with people and the boost levels? I kind of figured that you guys where thinking that it was for the 7M. I have 3" all the way back as well and when its late at night and real cold I hit fuel cut alot so I tend to drive normal. It's just like what the 2nd post said. colder air means you'd get more due to the weather.

Happened to me a lot, too. Especially in cold weather. I switched to a 2jz maf sensor and the problem was gone. Plugs right in to the 1JZ harness. Nothings blown up........... yet
