A friend of mine dealt w/em. They covered his struts; lifetime. However, they required him to send the bad strut in 1st, which left his car sitting for a couple of weeks. Basically, it's covered, not convenient and they only replace the blown one (not in pairs).

In his case, they replaced a set of 2 fronts, but it took him alot of work. Woulda probably been easier to just order a new set. That's been about 5 years, so things may have changed.

I warrantied one [1] full set fronts/rears & one [1] set of rears a couple years later. Both times I recieved replacements the very next day, with shipping labels included to return the bad ones. No mention of lowering was made by me or Tokico. Easily one of the best warranty experiences I can recall.

As for the shocks, they suck from a reliability standpoint. I give them a service life of 2 to 5 years, no more than that. I went through 3 sets in ~10 years, & I drive on smooth roads.

I've head no problems replacing tokicos. I go through one of their distributors, and those guys are top notch.

As far as the reliability issues, I think they have a rather weak shaft seal. However, it seems that the mk3 is the only car that routinely blows them. I think I've found the problem, and it lies in the bump stops. The material they're made of crumbles over time, and being that all mk3's are rather old, the majority have crumbling bump stops. The first time I blew the shocks, I noticed there was a lot of material deposited at the base of the shaft, which I believe causes the seals to blow. I changed the bump stops with new ones and the shocks have held up fine since.

How do you go about getting the warranty? Do they verify who you are, where you bought the shocks, and whether or not you sent in the warranty card?

Interesting theory/observation.

I got about 5 years of service on my Tokico HP's before I sold them. As far as I know they are still working great on the new owners car. The bump stops theory could be sound, I bought brand new silicone stops when I first installed them.

I remember gettin' mine from the dealer for less than $20 each.. might wanna check w/Jeff or Curt. I've had mine since about '98 with no issues... (that would be 3 MKIIIs ;-)
