Since removing it won't happen, I now enjoy handing out neg all the time. But to make it good, simply do not count rep for anything but the tech sections. Half my points are from worthless politcal opinions. And it shouldn't be that way.
Nick, there are a lot of people on forums and having the rep system is a way to keep them from getting too out of hand and where most problems happen IS in OT.
Removing people's reps is a huge punishment to them.
When you are trying to keep people to acceptable behavior, it can help.
The adults don't really care usually, but some others go crazy like your taking away their candy.
An admin took away some points from me on SF, but instead of doing what he wanted, I just quit his forum since he basically downgraded all my posts in the eyes of newbies.
If newbies would read my posts, look at my one red square, and say, "He don't know what he is talking about because he is in the red," then my help won't be accepted.
Since the help won't be accepted, why bother helping/contributing?
(One case where the intended mind control backfired on them--but as stated, that was on SF.)
The cool thing about a rep system is that if you are really getting repped for good posts, it will be easier for you to reference them for helping others.
