I have a first-gen xbox modded with Evolution-x. So far all that works for me is games and ripping games. I have about 35 on my HD right now. I bought it like this but I'm learning more on how the mods were done.

I've seen unleash-x and some other mods and I want to change operating systems, I just thought I'd see what, if any, xbox mods you all use. My evolution-x dashboard is nice but it's simple and not as nice as I'd like. plus some things dont work right.

Eventually I want to be able to use it to store and play music and video, as well as emulated nintendo games. Maybe movies, but I'm probably going to fill the 250gig HD with the first three and i'll save DVD's for movies.

soo...anybody?

Unleash-x is hot, my friend was using that for a while.

Cool, maybe I just need an update and some time going through the files to look for duplicate things and bad files... I just this youtube video of Unleash-x, which I have an older version of, and it looks perfect! But I think I'd still need the application XBMC (xbox media center) for mp3's and such.

Modded PSP's ftw. I have a couple friends w/ modded 360's and Wii's though. Wii is probably the easiest thing to mod ever.

Cool, are they just as easy to mod as the old xbox? I'd be tempted. What I would like is to keep online play but have games on a large hard drive... After having my xbox like that I never use my PS2 and I dont like the idea of disks anymore. period. loading times are cut in half as well...

I dont know much about wii's or what mods they will take. I'll google it.

Thanks so far. I think I'm going to look into upgrading, i just need a nice ftp program. Any suggestions?

I softmodded my X-Box WAYYYY back in the day when it was still being pioneered. I also hardmodded a friends, and softmodded a third (my buddy and I co-owned it, he bought it broken for $20 and I fixed it).

What do you mean what's this modded PSP? PSP is the most modded non-PC system in the history of gaming. There is almost everything for PSP... SERIOUSLY. Go to any console modding site and PSP will have 1000000x more threads.

Anyway, modding the Wii consisted of soldering a chip right near the lens of the Wii on only 4 points if I remember correctly. It's undetectable over the internet, its purely hardware based and pretty much just tells the Wii to read burned discs.

My friend w/ the Modded 360 has one of those MEGA MEGA sized CD cases. I had never seen one that big in person before its crazy how many games he has. He also has a modded Wii and a sick MAME Machine.

oh so his 360 just reads burned disks? that's still pretty sweet, unless 360 games are dual-layer. but i'd be willing to bet he can rip them as well?

Did he stick the MAME in a arcade-style box? I almost picked one of those up....but I was too slow on the draw and someone else nabbed it (craigslist)

Do you guys have any suggestions for ftp programs? I guess I dont need it long but I'd like something good that wont give me issues. Might use it for other things too but i dunno. I just want to connect my box tonight and check out the hard drive.

I don't really use any FTP's.. but I don't have any modded systems besides PSP. I can ask them if I remember.

Yes, he has it in some old 80's wrestling gaming cabinet, but modded w/ side buttons for pinball, a roller ball for bowling, and a little turn nob for uh... that one game. I also had another guy I knew building a mame machine from scratch using wood, but I'm not sure how it turned out.

I used to be into xbox modding way back in the day.

I have a 1.0 xbox with a reflashed the onboard bios. Has two separate bootable bioses, selectable via a switch at the back too. 200gb hard drive, mainly filled with movies. My linux server also has a ccxstream server running that XBMC connects to, to stream media from.

My dad uses it a lot to watch Top Gear, as I have the first 10 seasons stored on it. I've since moved on, and have a mythtv PC hooked up, as the xbox can't play all the HDTV stuff I have on my mythtv server.

I also have a modded PSP and Wii.

TOP GEAR. hah...love that show. Someone told me there's a torrent with all the 2001+ episodes ALL IN ONE torrent. hehe...might see about gettin that soon. ;)

does it take long to get into modding systems? Its a little intimidating but so many do it, i figure I could have some fun with used consoles... but if i get all the emulators working on my box i dont see a need for much more for a while... SO many games....

sounds cool though. I'm not sure what mods mine has beyond the 250gig HD. I forgot how to tell but i think it has a mod chip.

sounds like you have a cool setup though...i'm hoping to just get my xbox hooked into my bedroom sound system so I can stop using CD's. I still haven't brought myself to buy an ipod or similar device....

I'm running Evolution X on my modded XBOX, and it'll do everything I want it to. For media, I'm using XBMC, plus I have quite a few emulators with games + XBOX games on the hard drive.

I do have a couple of different dashboards installed (can't remember which ones ATM); but the one I use the most is Evolution X.

One of my bioses boots to EVO-X, one boots to XBMC (I've modified the bioses to load different dashboards). That way, with the flip of a switch, it's either a gaming machine, or a media center.

Figit090, I really recommend a PSP if your into modding. There are a ton of good forums for psp modding. http://www.pspmod.com/forums/ PSP can not only emulate previous consoles of the older gens, but you can even rip your PS1 games and just put them in a folder and play ( Of course doing the steps before this first ). It's an emulator / system / movie viewer / picture taker that does so much!

I also have a thousands of SNES, Genisis, Game Gear, Game Boy, Nintendo and other games running on my computer... and the best part is I can use my PS3 controller with them ( especially good for MK games or SNES in general ).
