Alright well I have '89 Supra Turbo. I got the car and wow there si oil everywhere on it, and I can't stand having a messy engine ( sorry ) Anyhow it is now pulled out, I hate having to do it by myself but sometimes there is no one around, but it went well.

I bought a full engine gasket kit to replace everything, and I think I may use a stock HG. The motor has 130,xxx on it and I don't think unless I rebuilt the motor I want to put a MHG on it and ARP hardware.

If I bought new bearing and rings how much money do machine shops charge generally?

I am also stripping the motor bay and re-painting the car black, I don't like the Silver, plus there is a little primer in the rear 1/4's so I have more reason to.

One of my motor mounts broke while taking the motor out. it just fell part. Would anyone suggest solid motor mounts? I had them before and you feel the more more of course any input?

Well I hope I can get 300 HP out of the 7M for now Until winter when i would like to achieve more, or maybe if I rebuild the motor now I can do that too!

thanks!

Why would you NOT get a MHG? I would feel a lot better myself knowing that part was taken care of.
Of course do everything to accomodate the MHG like lapping/milling your block also and not just the head. everything must be real smooth.
You can also reuse a MHG if you buy a good one.

You can buy ARP bolts or studs or you can use new stock toyota head bolts. Whatever you like. The arp's are reusable while the toyota stockers are not. So if you want to go with a built block in the future why not get the arps now?
tighten them at about 97NM :)

As for the engine mounts, I would buy the MKIV TT'98 mounts. they're cheaper than the original mounts and also better. They are a perfect fit, you only need to sand off some pin. search for it on here, there's a pictorial on these forums somewhere.

At 300hp its not a necessity. If you strap the stock gasket down correctly it will last a long time. I know for 300hp I would not spend that kind of money. 350 or 400? yeah i'd do it but 300 is not a gigantic gain.

If he has an early 89 he is assed out on late style mounts

if your going to go through the trouble of bringing the block to the machine shop and have them prep and install new bearing and rings, then you might as well have the head and block machined as well as getting the head rebuilt. but at this point you might as well get it rebuilt.

as far as prices, that depends on the availability of a competent machinist in your area. my machinist charged me $1100 to clean, machining block and head, bore, hone, installing rods and pistons, and rebuild the head (with 5 angle valve job)... not to mention a few other things. i did provide all the parts for the rebuild tho

i wouldnt recommend solid motor mounts for a daily driver. check out the BIC poly motor mounts. they are a good compromise between stock and solid mounts... and they dont cost too much

i'm pretty sure the stock toyota head bolts stretch once they are used.
please correct me if that's wrong. :)

you are wrong, they are not torque to yield. I'd recommend new bolts/studs either way.

what do you mean file for the mk4 mounts, I've got mk4 mounts on the engine I just bought, and I kinda need to know if there will be any problems with them going in.

Just to update everyone.. that '89 I had i stripped and parted out. It had rust everywhere. I don't understand how it got so bad. So I now have a '91 and I got a 1jz I am swapping into it.. So this can be closed..

By post face lift you mean 89+ right?

Correct.

However make sure you have had the 89+ stock mounts before.
My friend has some sort of "crossover" model. it's 89+, has all the 89+ features like newer steeringwheel, spoiler and front bumper, the post 89 grey plugs on the wiring harness BUT he has pre-89 engine mounts.

that's why i said post-facelift and not 89+ ;)
