Those numbers are when it starts to open. A warm engine burns more effeciently than a cool one.

All you want is to not over heat, not run cool.

... so why do you want a cooler thermostat? Are you bandaiding a problem, or do you simply prefer to kill your engine faster?

in a sense you could call it band-aiding a problem..

i am just ruling ou all the cheaper options before i have to park my car and dissasemble the whole motor, to have the block machined, and why stop there? replace the bearings and re-ring it, along with balencing the motor..

im running almost strait water and it's boiling.. so im tring to figure this out with out going strait to a bhg scenairo.

so far ive replaced all the spring clamps with worm drive clamps, (stop water leaks.. )im going to run a checmical coolig system cleaner through here soon, i bought to different kinds months ago but never got around to cleaning the cooling system..

Antifreeze is not just to keep it from freezing..

A liquid solution inside the radiator that lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point of water..Also called coolant, antifreeze circulates through the engine absorbing the excess heat that is created during the combustion process.

Get some antifreeze...

I'm curious to know why your car is overheating? Do you have the fan shroud intact? Is it a head gasket problem? Possibly the radiator is plugged, either on the outside or inside? I don't know what you've tried to do to keep it cool, so I'm at a loss as to what to suggest. But running a cooler 160 probably won't be the best fix, even for a temperary fix.

I know there is a thread out there that has some pretty cool tips (no pun intended) on keeping your car cool this summer.

no shroud, i had antifreeze in it but after it had pushed it all out, it gets expensive to keep replacing it..

i know have a 180 thermostate in the car now,

the temp gauge is a bit lower then normal, and i can see the coolant moving more often.

i know addin antifreeze raises the boiling temp, so does adding a higher rated rad cap,

i stoped by a shop today to check and see what it would run to have them test for a bhg, using the chemical in the tube and the rade cap, they wanted 89.99 quote from me "fuck that" and i walked out. no way im paying 90 bucks for them to pop my rad cap off, fill a tube with a blue solotion that cost 15 bucks, and suck up some steam to determine weather or no it's toast..

specailly since i can do it for free here in 2-3 weeks when i return to school (automotive student.)

so looks like the next thing in line will to drain the water out, and completly refill using antifreeze, well about 60/40

now, i know a shroud works wonders, but when i was running an oem style hg i never had an over heating problem at all.
