mine leaks a lil, but its like random when it does. what would that be?
what do you mean leaks??
I think its normal when under boost for it to constantly be letting out a small amount of air, I hear mine when the turbo kicks in and there is this hissing noise as it lets some of the air out, then when you let off you get the big surge.

I never heard mine leak when I had it on, but my turbo was pretty loud too. I was running stock boost with it and it was pretty damn high pitched.

It would surge really bad on my cousin's car though :dunno: , sounded good, but not good for it.

The leaking is not a good thing.
That could either be a boost leak or just you hearing the turbo spooling. But I doubt that its coming from the BOV itself.

As for a SSQV surging, that sounds to me like just a lack of adjusting. With proper adjustment and a properly functioning SSQV you should have no problems. Maybe his was dirty? or clogged? Gummy oily crap usually builds up

It was brand new when installed on my cousin's supra, and yes, it is the actual HK$ brand BOV. It is the newer generation that is non-adjustable. It was only ran on his car for like 100-200 miles. As soon as I took it off his car and put it on mine, it didn't surge. It wasn't the BOV to blame, it's gotta be something in his supra causing it.

I have an RFL BOV, and I don't get any surge...and the actual air-releasing sound goes on for a long time, if I hit the gas and then then let off...but if i'm boosting and depress the clutch, the sound is quicker...if that makes sense:icon_conf

Also, the RFL is adjustable, there are washers underneath, where the flange is, IIRC. I have both my RFL and stock BPV connected with a "T"-fitting, to get some air re-circulated back into the intake, and it also quieted the RFL down a bit.

The reason it blows off faster when shifting is because the rpms drop a lot faster whereas if you just let off the gas they go down slowly and more exhaust gases are still spinning the turbo.

your bov should NEVER leak, especially a SSQV.

outofstep took apart one of the "cheap" ebay ones. it's identical to the real thing. he just lubed something inside up, and otherwise, it works identically.

i'll still buy the real thing though.
