I have a roll around A/C unit - the sort that stands on 4 wheels, and has a hose you bung out a window.

It's a 9000BTU jobby, with a remote.

Thing is, these days, it doesn't seem to pump out cold air.

Now i bought this in July - the very end of - but it's been running pretty regularly since then - sometimes every day for about 4-8 hours. Could the refrigerant in it have run out already?

Refrigerant doesn't run out or wear out on A/C's, they leak out when seals go bad. Have you checked the condensor or evaporator for blockage (dust?).

If it's not that, then it's leaking. With you only have it for a few months, there should still be a warranty of some sort on it where you can return the POS.

We had a window mounted A/C (GE, cheap POS made in China), very small, 5,200 BTU and it crapped out on us after a few months. What happened? The refrigerant leaked out.

Are there any blinking lights on it?

You really think the blinker fluid is low?
Man I never would have thought about that...

Kai, make sure first you have changed out the filter, even small window units have them. If it is clogged all to hell, then there is your problem. As others have said, this isn't car AC so if it isn't working after that, then it could very well be a loss of refrigerant.
