Just finished the tear down to find what many others have long put behind them...BHG. No milky oil yet I was losing fluid. Gurgling...yup. A couple of small hose leaks but not the motherload. Finally I read about exhaust side gasket failure allowing exhaust gases to force the coolant back through the system and spit out the overflow tank. Then it happened. Driving through town and the temp guage starts going up as I sat at a red light. Crap! I pulled into a parking lot, lifted the hood and sure enough the over flow tank hose was spewing.
Exhaust side gasket blown, especially 1,5&6.
I'm no expert. In fact I'm far from it, so if my diagnosis of the problem is off kilter feel free to correct. As for the tear down, it was my first. For anyone out there feeling this job is too big to handle, it's not. I say this before I button it all back up of course, but I don't expect any surprises I can't deal with. For the rebuild: MHG, down pipe, exhaust-cat, intake, BOV, gauges and boost controller. Trying to keep the expenses realistic for the first go around...probably not going to happen.
