Yes, So, After fixing my little problem with the coolant lines for the ISC and TB, and putting new o-rings on the PS pump fitting, I started up my 1989 JDM 7MGTE/R154 in a 1988 USDM 7MGE/A340E chassis. It idled like crap. It idled so bad, that it would die. It never dieseled when it died, and when I gave it some gas, it sounded somewhat like it should. On the EGR side of the car, it sounds like theres a huge leak, so I tried spraying, I couldnt find any leaks. So I checked every vacuum line, the PCV, ISC, and TB; sprayed everything. All in proper order. I don't have the throttle cable connected to the TB yet, and I don't know if this would effect the idling or not. The only thing I havent checked yet, is the Timing, but it idles so bad, I don't think It'll live long enough for me to check it. Also my Girlfriends dad pointed out something to me, could the EGR Diaphragm be stuck open/shut?

Some details: I used an A/T ECU, Bypassed the EGR VSV, Bypassed the BVSV, Brand new wire harness for an 89 Turbo/MT, I havent filled up the transmission yet, but keep the clutch out the whole time while the engine is running. The fuel tank is half full and the fuel is 7 Months old, and I put some injector cleaner in it. (I don't know if any of these details make a difference, but I'm at a loss here...)

Any advice? Even if it's totally obvious, it would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Now theres something I DIDN'T check. :) I'll try that, but I dont think it's it, I triple checked it before I ever started because I know how often that becomes a problem with this car.

What Johnathan said and check for codes. Also fill the tranny and be done with it. Why wait?

You can't bypass those valves. Blocking them off is OK but don't bypass them. Find the source of what sounds like a huge leak because it probably is. Your girlfriend's dad is right, if the EGR is stuck open the engine will idle like crap. If you have it connected wrong or bypassed the VSV it might be open at idle, especially if the TB needs to be adjusted. If it's stuck closed it won't cause a problem.

I understand it didn't come with one. Since you're in Cali good thing you put one on. The GE VSV one will work. Just disconnect EGR for now, same with the BVSV. You can hook them up when you get everything checked out.

The charcoal cannister and EGR work off ported vacuum. Since your JDM motor didn't come with EGR I don't know if the TB has the ports for the the BVSV and EGR VSV. If not where did you hook them up? You can't just hook them to the manifold, especially if you bypassed the VSVs.

I put a USDM TB on it :) I forgot to mention that, very sorry.

Ninja Edit: I routed them exactly like it said in the diagram in the TSRM, I just skipped the VSV and the BVSV. And the Fuel VSV is still there.

Probably not the source of your problem then but you still need to either put the valves back in or defeat the systems altogether. Leaving it the way it is will cause other problems. Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Again, codes? As soon as you get it running set timing.

Okay guys heres the verdict, The brand new intake manifold gasket that I put on is leaking :icon_evil and this is the cause of my problem. And also the timing was HORRIBLY wrong. Yep. Thanks for all your help guys! And to the guy who offered to come down and help me, if you still want to, I'd appreciate it. So you can show me what else I did wrong other than the gasket, because I'm sure there still are things that are wrong, since I've never actually seen under the hood of a Supra with a 7MGTE..

Again, Thanks everybody!

Whoa! I'm in Fremont. Sup! :p

What you're doing is way out of my league (which is basically non existent) but just surprised and thought I'd say hi. Maybe I'll see your car around sometime.
