Another "Is this a good deal" thread

I'm actually wondering what you guys think of this parts car that I'm gonna buy. The idea here is to buy the car, fix the problems, and sell it. It is an 87 turbo hardtop 5 speed, fresh paint. The car has been converted to turbo via a low mileage turbo motor from a 91. It needs an engine harness, along with a few other items. Judging from the pics, the car comes with CF headlight covers, and hood. The guy wants < $600 (not telling real price or location ). So what do you guys think, would it be a good project to restore and sell?

are you sure those arent just black headlight covers to match the black hood??? if you're finished with your first supra then go for it... but most people can only handle one headache... good luck with whatever you decide to do

Yeah, I just found out that it's black instead of CF, isn't a big deal though.

thats worth it. but if its fresh paint, get rid of the pre89 trim. and sell me the one that says toyota supra on it. i can take car of that metal good .

Me personally i would swap all the turbo stuff into my car, and use the good stuff off this car"bodywise" and drop it off at the paint shop and have fresh paint and a turbo, but thats just me.

With all the missing parts and no oil cap on it, I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it. For $600, if the motor is bad, you won't even break even selling off the parts on it.

If the motor is good..
Harness - $140
CPS - $50
Coils - $40
Ignitor - $50
ECU - $100
AFM - $100
Radiator - $75
Turbo (not in the picture) - $150

These are the only parts that I can see missing from the photo, so your easily over $1000 already. Who knows how much other peices it's missing., plus you need the body trim, painr, carpet, etc...etc...

Unless you can go inspect it in person and check for all the missing parts, $600 is a lot of money for a project car with a questionable motor.

it wouldn't be worth fixing it to sell for me. You're going to have to sink $1500 - $2000 to get it in running condition. after sinking that much into it, you'll be lucky to break even.

i say if you found a supra with a wrecked rear end or tbone you could pick it up for less than that and throw the two together to make one car as sell for more than the two original cars, as far as buying all the replacement parts, not worth it.

i would buy it! then if you know of any junkyards with supras in them go get the parts you need. i know of like 3 yards around here with supras. you could always just strip it to bare bones and have it as a fun/race car? or part it out like other guys said. but not knowing if it runs or not is a risk you might have to take i guess.....
