Another Cut Wire

So I found another cut wire while rebuilding my GTE. This one is weird however. The first few inches of the wire are a different color (red/black) but if you follow the wire down you could see the original color of the harness wire was blue/yellow. Once again I have no idea what the previous owner was doing with this car. I have included a picture of where I believe this wire connects to since that blue plug looks tampered with as well. That connector is located on the thermostat cover.

If it came from the thermostat cover it might be the water temp sender. I show that as a yellow wire with a green stripe for a 1990. Your harness may be different if it's from a different year.

Another option looks like the ABS Speed Sensor wire going to the B3 connector for the ECT. If you don't have ABS then that may not matter. That's the only blue-yellow wire I see for a 90.

If you have a few wires like that on the harness I'd do one of a couple things:
1. Buy another matching harness is good condition.
2. Buy the TEWD for your exact year and check each circuit, repairing as you find wrong wire colors and such.

IMG_20140514_191151_320.jpgI have a 92 and just refurb'ed my harness. The wire that goes to the Water Temp sensor is Blue/White on both the 92 and 89 donor harnesses I used. It's the sensor on the bottom left side of the thermostat housing. The wire looks like it was spliced in the last picture you posted. The PO probably just used a random black/red wire to fix this. I had a broken wire there but I also had to extend it, so part of my wire is white. The plug definitely looks broken and may need to be replaced. I think yours may be slightly different on a yellow plug harness, but you can get an idea of the correct overall length of the plug in the picture.
