So did the 5 speed swap on a 91 gte with a r154 started her up everything is fine, drove it probably about three miles, found a coolant leak so brought it home, fixed that. While it was running, i was checking all hoses for leaks and a large tapping noise arose, that sounded like something in the transmission. So i went into the car pushed the clutch in and the sound went away, but came back when i released the clutch. Went under the car, checked everything, i noticed the cluch fork moves side to side a little but i figured that clutch fork play is normal. I also adjusted the pedal all the way in and all the way out to see if that would help at all, and nothing. So any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a clutch release bearing.

Or it could be your thrust bearing went out and now you have crank walk making your engine knock around. When you press the clutch in it give the thrust bearing some pressure and holds the crankshaft steady making the noise go away. Ok ok, I was kidding about this part. I hope.

Yeah, that's a notorious problem for DSM's.

Check to see if all of your pressure plate to flywheel bolts are tight. I was once told that re-using flywheel bolts can cause a knock sounding problem too. Does it vibrate any while driving?
Drive it in first gear slowly next to a curb (or wall) with your window down and listen. See if it does it in gear.

I'll check the flywheel bolts tomorrow and pp bolts tomorrow, only reason I believe it'd be the throwout bearing is maybe if it were installed incorrectly, but I followed a clutch install thread from supraforums which corresponded correctly with the tsrm so maybe I'll recheck my work there as well. Anybody have an insight to the clutch fork having play? The sound when I move the fork by hand, sounds very similar to the noise the car is making, just (obviously) not as quick.

So checked everything today, and unfortunately i think the transmission is the issue everything on the clutch and the hub is per the tsrm and works correctly, so im thinking front bearing retainer.
