Alright,
so ive got a turbo thats old has some shaft play. I noticed today when i remote started the sup to goto lunch a puff of whitish/blue smoke came out the tailpipe it also appears that when i get on the gas and ill be burning oil. When i come to a stop ill smell the burning oil and according to friends when i gun it puffs of white smoke come out.

I know the turbo is throwing oil, because there are traces of oil on the compressor's intake lip. Just wondering if theres anyway i can test to see if its indeed the turbo and not something like rings or valve seals etc.

still havent done a compression test on the supra yet but every morning when i go to start the car a nice little puff of smoke comes out of the tail pipe. It seems its doing it anytime the car sits, or is cold. Just wondering if the turbo can cause something like this?

Cars will always smoke when it is firsted cold started on a cold day. You could probably remove the turbo and do a visual inspection for leaks - it'l be easier than inspecting the rings and valves.

But I'd do a compression test first.

my car has never smoked on a cold start, nor have i seen any properly running supra burn oil on a cold start. Burning oil on a cold start could mean either theres oil leaking into the cylinders as it sits which would mean either valve seals or rings correct? or theres oil getting thrown off from the turbo which is later burning as its exiting the turbo's exhaust side.

doing compression test tonight when i get home :) i shall update with the #

I think what koulee is trying to say is that every car when it's started cold with puff out a white cloud... maybe not oil but something else... even new cars do this...

but back on topic it could be the seals on the turbo... thats what happened to mine when my turbo seals went out... it would smoke randomly and on startup and in between gears...

agreed. its condensation. on a cold enough day all cars driving around have a little trail of white. valve seals could cause it to. they might not be out but just as they contract (cool) over night they let some oil down into cycls, not much just a bit. it then goes away as the seals expand some. pending numbers :)
