well i got my tranny back in my car and put the alum driveshaft in it. the stock bolts are short. the thread only goes about half way through the nut. i have it on there like that for now so i can drive to work since its only about 1/4 mile away and i hit maybe 20mph max. but has anyone else had this problem? and if so where can i get new hardware and what size. thanks- Brian

so in other words i am gonna have to get long ones and cut them down. somethign that is 10x1.0mm or 1.25. couldnt i just use anything that fits as long as its a high grade and a fine thread?

You can use 3/8" bolts, nuts, and lock washers...I would use no less than a grade 10. There will be "slop" in the hole fitments cause 3/8" is slightly smaller than a 10mm.

I'm looking to get ARP's:

Bolts:
10x1.25, 35mm long, 12mm wrench size...part #'s 663-1004 (hex), 673-1004 (12 point)

Nuts:
10x1.25 12mm wrench size...part #'s 300-8344 (12 point, std head), 300-8343 (12 point, small collar)

Likely will have to use the 12 point bolts due to the recess in the driveshaft flange...the 12 point head is round with a collar; the hex head will likely not fit in the recess, and if it does, you won't be able to get a good grip with a wrench. The std diameter 12 point nuts should be fine...there is no recess on the differential side.

The stock bolt is a hex head (Toyota says a Grade 10), but also has a round collar...just measured it...it's 15mm in diameter. I gotta call ARP tomorrow and see what the head diameter is on the above 12 point bolts. If they fit, it will be a very good bolt to use...ARP says they are heat-treated 8740 chrome moly bolts (black oxide finish) and are nominally rated at 170,000 psi tensile strength. That's a substantial extra margin of safety.

But, as with everything ARP sells, I'll bet they are gonna cost $5-6 each for the bolts and $4-5 each for the nuts. Probably in the $50 range for all. Then again, you gotta think about your shiny, new aluminum driveshaft whipping like an egg beater around the under carriage if these bolts give away. ;)

10mm Cap screws may be easier to find there and are grade 8.

You would think so...tried to find them here in Phoenix in a fine or extra-fine (1.25mm or 1.0mm) thread, but no such luck. Don't want to use a std 1.5mm thread...I'm thinking Toyota had a reason for using the 1.0mm thread on the stock bolt. Any ideas on where to get the cap screws? And would getting to the 54 ft/lb torque spec be ok with the hex socket? It would be easier to use these...no doubt.

I come from a land down under
JDub: Socket caps would be fine at 54 ft/lbs!

That must be really frustrating finding Metric bolts.
(it's getting a bit the other way here as Imperial are a little hard to source)

Went to Ace hardware and found 10.9 metric cap screws. This was for the JAWS driveshaft (the flange is thicker on this than the stocker, by how much i forget). Hardware shouldn't be too tough to find.

In a 1.25 or 1.0mm thread?
