Air flow meter flap by intake causing supra not to start for long

I spent days trying to figure out why my supra wouldnt start or starts then dies. but i noticed if someone pushes the flap open on the intake it would run just fine. any way to fix this ? is there like a vacuum line im missing or something cause i made sure everything was plugged in just bypassed the power steering and went straight to the intake manifold and it still wont open itself.
