Ok, Im getting seriously tired of this shit.
Every winter, when it gets to cold, even when the car is in the garage where its nice and warm, my clutch petal AKA the whole hydrolic system turns into peanut butter. When I push in the petal it sinks to the floor and sits there, lift it up with my foot, pump it a few times it works for a few shifts then its shit again. So it seems any time I want to drive my car, I end up having to bleed the system and it works perfect. If I leave it sitting over night, the next morning its crap.
I've changed the slave 3 times THREE!, I've changed the master 2 times.
I'm using the right fluid, DOT 3.
It doesnt do it when its warm outside.
Yes, the master and slave are from autozone, bad?

Please Im getting tired of this, someone tell me why this happens, Im all out of solutions. I'm about to tear the whole system out of my 89 and put it into my 87...Master slave and all, because it has no problems.

I got tired of farting with old parts, bought everything new, flushed the lines spotless, now I use DOT 5 Silicone brake fluid, hopefully it will last dang near forever, it did in my brake system on my old van.

i'd say get brand new toyota units. master, slave, softline. then bleed the crap out of it until the fluid is nice and clear.

aftermarket/non toyota units are known to fail. i put a brand new master, slave, and softline on my car before i put it back on the road after the swap. several reasons:

1) piece of mind
2) piece of mind
3) piece of mind

:) i didn't want to take the chance, and i knew i'd need it all eventually, so why deal with it on several occasions when i can do it all at once? ;)

Yea, the master and slave are autozone crap. So I'm probably going to use the new master and slave and line in the 89 and put them in the 87 tonight, and yea I know what you mean when you say peace of mind, its good to know that you can rely on a part.

My Tacoma does this in the winter too... the pedal will come back but stop a couple inches before the bump-stop... just flick it back with your toe. ;)

Yeah, replacing the master cylinder on my supra was one of my most fun jobs... :sarcasm:

But it was so worth it once it was right.

so everybody here used a toyota replacement? No body had any success with the Autozone generic crap? D34dc311 you finally had success when you replaced your soft lines Maybe if you replaced your softlines when you replaced tour master cylinder and slave cylinder the first time do you think it the autozone replacement wouldve hold up to the test? Im not advising owners to be cheap and buy the cheapest parts, Im just looking at things from a different point of view. Maybe the cheap autozone stuff did work and all that was really needed was to replace the old rubber soft lines.

No no, I used 3 generic autozone slaves, all failed. Now I have a Toyota master and slave and soft lines off my 89. Works like a charm.
And the master was an autozone generic it didn't fail but I replaced it just to be safe. Well, the 3 slaves I had in the car I tore down and all 3 of them the O rings had split and failed. Maybe I had bad luck but i think it was part of the problem rather than a solution.

I looked up online, the toyota clutch master cyclinder is $100.53. Is that right? how much did you all pay?

That sounds about right. I just took mine from my other supra, so it was cheap I guess, I paid 600 for the car so, pricey or no? LOL

Yes $100 is about right for the master, I bought everything for 100(slave and master) but thats because I work at Toyota :p. I replaced both things because I was having the same issue except mine was leaking bad, but I haven't gotten to bleeding it as its 18 degrees outside and yeh I'm lazy lol.

Def. replace with Toyota OEM parts and do both the slave and master and make sure you buy some good brake fluid.

I used some swivels and an electric impact to do all my stuffs, I believe all you need is a 12 and 10 and maybe a 14MM 3/8 sockets with an extension.

Good luck
