Thanks, for the info, just a few more things... The 2 threaded holes on the wastegate, where do they go?? Also the hole in the hot side of the turbo it appears just dump exhaust gas from the manifold to the downpipe, whats the purpose of this hole? I am welding a adaptor flange to my stock turbo elbow and I dont see the point of have the hole there?? Thanks guys I am new to the afermarket turbo world but learnring fast with your help!

Why wouldent the aftermarket companys take advantage of watercooling? I guess it must not be that great... Anyway where do the 2 threaded holes goto on the external wastegate??

Buddy, I am not sure your on the same page as we are here.

The external wastegate does not connect to the turbo in any way. Those TWO ports ( one smaller than the other ) are oil ports.

Judging by your previous posts, it seems you have a T4 without oil jackets right?

Ok, the SMALLER port is the oil FEED ( oil goes in from the block here) and the larger port is the oil RETURN ( oil going back INTO the block).


The reason most companies do not put coolant jackets in the turbo's is that it takes up TOO MUCH space inside the housing...that space is utilized for oil...the turbo's are built to a better level of performance where they can withstand higher temperatures better than the stock turbo's.

And if you think about it, that coolant coming out of our stock turbos is INSANELY hot......and its being fed right back into the system...

I dont know about you, but commen sense says hot coolent no good!

what about in my situation... where I will be replacing my stock turbo with my lipp boss stg v... will I have to route lines for the water cooled turbo?

of course it does, if your car is turbo the lines are easy to follow. Thermostat housing to turbo and back. That is it

Here is a pic of the cooling line setup on the BOSS

The lines on the right hand side of the pic are the water lines.
Oil feed and return are on the top and bottom of the turbo.
The BOSS comes with the neccesary lines and fittings to hook it all up
