hey people just bought a rediculously big intercooler moved some things around and got it to fit. Now my problem is my coolant resevoir sensor, can i just take it off or should i find and modify a tank? I think it doesnt affect the check engine light just trying to see whats been done.

I have the same problem. The stock JZA70 intercooler is a bit bigger than the 7m one, so the coolant reservoir doesn't sit down on it's bracket quite like it used to. I'm gonna be relocating the battery for water/methanol injection eventually anyway, I'll more than likely move the coolant reservoir then as well. My advice? Fab one up, make some brackets, and shape it sorta rectangular, but short. Should fit... Just don't forget to make sure the stock birdcage light sensor still works. ;)

Ever since I swapped to the 1jz, I just never put the bracket back, and just tucked in the resorvoir. I recently upgraded to a big XS intercooler so I just have it sit on top of the intercooler with a bracket that holds the it and the IC.

You cant remove it, you have to have it unless you want to be dumping coolant out on the road and sucking up air into your system. You can custom make your own, just make sure it has the same overall volume as you need room for coolant to fill and empty in the reservoir.

Jose at Kaizen just bent the tab and used the bolt hole right above the original to mount it when relocating my oil cooler because of the upgraded IC, and everything works like stock..

Does anybody know what the volume for the 1JZ reservoir is supposed to be? Mine is missing so I just want to make something else up to replace it, I just need to know how big to make it.

Just under a half gallon.

I have a big IC as well, had to bend the stock bracket and drilled a new hole so it would fit.
It would be cool to fab up a new one:)

Does the volume really matter? I would think that as long as you have it as big or bigger than stock, half full of coolant, half full of air, you'd be ok?

I have no idea how big the stock one is for a jza70 though, when I bought my car it didn't have a reservoir there at all for some reason lol, I just went and grabbed one out of a Prelude at a junkyard today, it's really thin and fit behind the intercooler with not too much of a problem

You need about 700cc for a 7M, I ran a small aftermarket one here and it just had enough capacity to cope.

More importantly, is that a fan behind your intercooler? Sorry, never really followed the build on that car much...

I once used a quart oil bottle with a hole cut in the lid and a zip tie to hold the hose just off the bottom. Worked like a charm for 9 years on my last car. It was in the fender, out of sight.

I used the most expensive oil bottle I could find in the garbage can... Amsoil.

Ot but how do you do that with the links? Or is there a name for it so i can google it?

Just go to "advanced edit" highlight the text you want to make a link then click the link icon, copy/paste the page you want to link into the box and it's done!
