Anyone know where to get an aftermarket automatic shift knob that will fit round the oval shifter?

Edit: That preferably has a button that can be wired for O/D.

check jegs or summit...im sure they have one...

I don't think so.

I have always hated that "moms station wagon" looking stock shift handle. I have had no luck finding a direct fit shifter or knob after quite a bit of looking.

I ended up taking a universal billet shift knob and machining it out to fit over the shifter stem. I then had to cut both the stock shifter stem, and the lockout mechanism as well as the universal shift knob I bought to get an acceptable look, otherwise the new shift handle would have looked ridiculous, kind of like a billet dildo. I wouldn't have been comfortable with that.:nono:

As far as the O/D lockout button goes, I mounted it on my steering wheel using a "soft feel" on off button.

Works great but... I would much rather have something like a B&M ratchet shifter, problem is I'd have to adapt one to fit. I have looked at what's available and it seems to me it could be done with the model designed by B&M for the later Camaros

The problem with the B&M shifters is that as far as I could find they are all cable actuated. The Supra is a mechanical linkage. It would require some engineering to make a way for it to actually shift the trans. I too have always wanted to do this and was seriously thinking about buying a B&M and getting to work on fabricating a kit to make it work. Since I no longer have a Supra those plans got derailed, but I think if someone were to attempt this project there would be a decent market for it.

What I was saying was Summit does not sell, and B&M does not make a shifter specifically made for the MkIII.

However, they do make a shifter for 80's or 90's camaros that is not a cable action and in fact does resemble our shifters as far as the linkage goes. It doesn't look to me upon a quick inspection that it would be too dificult to modify it to fit. I just haven't done it yet.

I will check out the model number and post it here in a bit.

It's the B&M megashifter, but the model I saw was not a cable operated model.

Here is a picture of what the mega shifter looks like but I think this one which is in a camaro is the cable version (won't work), and not the one with the arm that connects mechanically to the shifter arm on our transmissions (the one I said looks like you could make it work with an A340).

Looks just like this:

b&m shifter.jpg

btw...these are not true ratchet shifters but they have to be better than stock.
But I will get the B&M model I am talking about, and post it.

Some one did fit that into a MK3. There was a thread a couple of weeks back and he posted pictures of his set up with the same shifter

This thred started with just the shift knobs...so i guess what you guys are saying is that none of the B&M knobs will work either aside from the overdrive button...??

I just searched for it and couldn't find the thread. Maybe I used the wrong search words or ???

Do you happen to have the link to the thread you're talking about?
