When I take off again, after engine braking to a stop, I have smoke (blue or grey, hard to tell) when I take off again.

No smoke on start-up – not valve seal/guides
No coolant loss, over heating – no signs of BHG
Swapped out turbo – No excessive oil in intake path path (not turbo oil seals, right?). Heavy carbon built up in exhaust side and tail pipe.
Going through a quart and half oil a week
Getting 18mpg city
At idle, engine is running lean, ECU having to add max fuel - VF=5V (wouldn’t have to do this if leaky injectors, right?)
At WOT, A/F=9.7:1
Boost to 10psi fine, no vacuum leaks

That’s all the info I can think of right now. Let me know what other information would help diagnose.
Thanks.

edit: I didn't mean my engine is breaking,
I meant that I was braking to a stop using the engine :crazy1:

TuRbO..........mine does the same thing. have someone follow you while you boost and they will tell you that there is some smoke coming out while boosting. id put money on it.

Thanks, that’s what I am hoping. I have followed my car with someone else driving and it does smoke while boosting, black smoke I think. I just noticed the thicker, blue or grey, smoke after doing engine breaking.
I’m still helicoiling the exhaust side of the head, back breaking work, so I haven’t tested the new turbo yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am having the same problems. Though I did take the elbow off to find that the exhaust housing has white on the WG port and turbine wheel... I have no overheating issues and do not beleive I consume any coolant. Sounds like I have a BHG, though I just put in a MHG about 2k miles ago...

Like I said though, mine does the same stuff as far as oil is concerned. I get shitty mileage however, but I do not know my A/Fs. My turbo also sounds like the whine from an RX7 when it's turbo spools. My spool up is also very slow, my boost drops from 11psi to 7psi after 5500 rpms, and my car feels slow in general and it definitly should not be... So it does sound like turbo oil seals for both of us, but can that also be a boost leak? I have checked all over for a boost leak and can not see where one might be and I have not yet pressure test my intake system.

I will be doing a compression test today and hopefully my HG is still good and I just need to go pick up a new turbo.

if the turbo's bearings are going bad i think that could affect the time it takes for it to spool up and its ability to hold boost. also that is adding contaminants to the oil.

id think if you suspect the turbos bearings are wearing that you should fix it ASAP and until then change your oil and oil filter more frequently.
