I was just wondering if it's totally neccesary to have a AFPR if you do the Lexus AFM 550 upgrade?

you dont need it at that point, but when you start tuning it is important.

you may have a shitty idle with the lexafm and 550s, with an afpr (and adjustement screw on the AFM if you have it.. ) you can play with the base FP until you get an acceptable idle.

No, it's not totally neccesary. An AFPR raises the fuel pressure one pound for every pound of boost in effort to keep you AR's rich.

that is only part of it and only applicale to a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. There are some fuel regulators which are NOT rising rate. The adjustable fuel pressure regulator can have the base pressure set to whatever the user wants and helps in tweaking the system.

Negative.

A rising rate regulator fuel pressure regulator (like the stock one) raises the fuel pressure one psi of fuel for each psi of boost to keep things exactly the same. It's to maintain a constant pressure differentail between the rail & the internal pressure of the manifold. It has nothing to do with keeping the car rich.

An ADJUSTABLE (AFPR) does exactly the same thing but provides you the ability to adjust the baseline fuel pressure. This is generally only needed when you have made substantial changes to the fuel delivery system. i.e. - larger pump, larger lines, larger fuel rail, removed the j-tube, etc.

A properly working 1:1 FPR has no function surrounding enrichment.
