I think I screwed mine up. I took it off and decided to clean the inside due to nasty looking varnish deposits. Took out the meter carefully and set it aside.
I smoothed out some casting marks on the inside of the AFM housing, and semi-poloished it up with some fine steel wool. And then I rinsed it out with some AFM cleaner that stated it was safe. MY BUDDY decided to help and showed me some carbon looking deposits on the leading edges aof the meter, and cleaned them off, possibly with the same cleaner. I have put it all back together, and now the car runs rich. It will start up and idle normaly, but if I give it a little gas,it revs, but when the rpm's come down,it will start to lope, and puff out black smoke.
I have checked for codes, but the only code i see is the blink every .25 seconds, which the book states is normal.
Added note, while the car was down for the stock fan replacement,I was adjusting the tension of the alternator belt,I blew the 100 amp fuse in the engine bay when I sparked across the rear bolt of the alternator and the terminal behind it. The fuse has been replaced.
Any ideas would be helpful.

Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will clear all codes and also (what I'm getting to) will cause the ECU to 're-learn' the sensor settings and drive paterns.

You will then need to go for a 20 min. drive, stop & go, and a little hwy. This may help your problem, and will not cause any harm.:icon_razz
