I had a spare AFM electronics in my parts bin that seems to have gotten damaged. Everyone knows the big sensor part that goes into the hole in the housing right? Now the smaller little knob thingy, its broken off but still kinda dangling. Is this another sensor thing? Pretty much wanna know if it's hooped and need a new one as the one on my car where you plug it in seems to be falling out. I can get up some pictures in the morning if we need. Thanks

OK here is pics. Here is the broken AFM, wanna know if it should just be tossed now

And this one is on the car, it sometimes seems to come out a little and then acts as though it isn't there. You cant give the car any throttle and it idles down a bit. Then I pull over and push it back in and its fine, so this one is pretty much pooched I think. (and that oily ness is from a power steering leak that is now fixed)

Old thread but figured I could use it for my current AFM problem.

So my car started giving me grief and threw a code 31 at me. Found some shitty wires and traced back a little and replaced them. Then my car wouldn't even start anymore, not even attempt to spark. Had an extra ECU laying around so we tossed that in to see what would happen. The car started, no codes, but has a bad miss that I am pretty sure is in the computer(computer the car came out of ran with the exact same miss).

Got another ECU from a member here and car fired up right away. But code 31 is back. Now I have the AFM sensors that I had been swapping in and out to see if that was the problem. They all give me different results.

Re-wired AFM all the way back to the ECU, no change.

Now the one pictured up top with broken temp probe I have been using since this thread was last opened(2 years), the car will start up, run fine for about a minute or so and then start fumbling and die.

The one that had the plug part pulling out, starts car and lets it idle really low, when you hit the gas its as if you are stopping the airflow into the motor and wants to die.

Third one I have I pulled off the other car I have that was showing no codes, car starts, idles decent but the CEL is on, rev it up a bit and the light goes away, let off the gas and it kinda bogs but doesn't stall and the CEL comes back on.

Tried checking the AFM's as per TSRM but i don't quite think I have the right tool for reading the values.

Do you guys think all 3 of my sensors are pooched? Any input would be great as this is really getting to me being my only/daily driver.

Thanks,
Kyle

Yeah, figured one of the sensors I had was good and some of the wires in that harness are rank crusty and hard. Not sure where to go now

Thanks,

Well you definitely have an AFM, wiring, or ECU problem. ECU is the least likely culprit, but still possible. How did you rewire the AFM? You need to triple check the integrity of your wiring. Is it possible you accidentally switched pins around or wires around? Make sure all the pins in the connectors are in good shape and making proper contact.

Pulled pins out of connectors and soldered new wires to them, good solid wire on wire spliced for the couple wires that run to the tps and water sensor. Figure the wiring should be good since it does the same thing it did before I rewired regardless of sensor used.

If I try another AFM and it doesn't work out I don't know where to go. Would that be good time to for the MAFT-PRO I've been thinking of getting, since it eliminates the AFM altogether.

Thanks,
Kyle
