Advice needed on antennae replacement

I have a 1989 non-turbo supra with a spoiler. I've been looking for an antennae mast replacement but the OEM is too expensive. Does anyone know which after market brand will fit? Also, can you provide tips on the method of removal and replacement?

Also, same question for the trunk and hood struts. Do I need to go with an OEM or which after markets will fit without any modifications?

antennae is plural

anyway, you can find replacement antennas on ebay, but you have to take two prongs out of the old connector and solder them onto the new antenna. other than that, its a pretty good fit. ive got one on mine right now, and it works fine.

tips of removal/replacement: you're gonna have to take a few body panels out of the trunk in order to get to it. once you get to it its just a few bolts holding the bracket in place. pretty self explanatory. to take the old antenna off use a screwdriver to tap the silver collar and unscrew it, youll see four notches for this.

as for the trunk and hood struts, search on here, there are part numbers for the replacements at advance auto or auto zone; they work great.

i like the ones you can duble side tape on the insaid of your wind shield they so much cleaner and are very powerfull as well i don't liem my supra being an rc car

another option. if you wanted to get an adapter some guys were talking about an integrated rear hatch antenna. if you look down behind your radio youll see the standard antenna jack, but a smaller one too. looks like its on a gray wire. ive heard that if you get an adapter you can just use some metal or w/e its wired to in the rear hatch to get better reception if you shave your antenna.

thats for AM radio there big gunner fm needs a booster as you whould say oh yae that antten can go in the back glass as well but work best up front

I seem to remember something from Toyota saying that the back hatch antenna was in fact for FM.. they called it a "Diversity Antenna" and that's pretty much what I've been getting my FM reception on, having little to no standard antenna.. it works pretty well, too.

just wondering if this would work ok? my complete antenna assembly is rusted through, and my mast is broken off, i get everything but A/M, your thoughts?

Old thread but the diversity antenna system's job in the stock radio was to switch between whatever antenna was getting the best signal so it works fine on FM. Been using it on mine on an afttermarket Pioneer system for years. I unplugged the other one so it stays down.

JJ, what do you have to buy to plug the diversity antenna's plug into the radio? isnt it a bit smaller than the standard plug?

Yeah, it is smaller. Been many years so I'd have to take it off to look but I seem to recall I soldered a short pigtail onto the smaller plug and shrinked wrapped it. You might be able to buy an adapter these days. Or wrap some aluminum foil on there and jam it in

I still have the factory FM-AM Stereo radio lying around here somewhere. AM stereo was supposed to be the next big thing back then but it never caught on.

my radio/cd sucks its not the factory OEM one but it doesn't even play burnt or original cd's & the only way to hear music from the FM radio is to have your hand ON the antenna

They sell adapters of all sizes for those plugs. look at Auto stores by the replacement antennae. You Could always go XM or Sirrius but seems like money is a problem!
