advice for an occasional drag setup

So I've got a '90 turbo manual, and mainly I consider it just a fun street car. I've never dragged before, and wanna try it out this summer a bit. I also wanna try out autocross this summer as well, and I'm trying to get a setup that might work for both, but I don't intend to make my Supra a full time racer.

Now I don't expect to set any records... really I'm thinking of just dragging maybe 4-5 times a year, and autocrossing in the meantime... Mainly I'm just doing both for fun. Here's what I have so far

Intake
3" turbo back exhaust
Fluidyne Radiator
Cross drilled Brembos
57 Trim Ct-26

I'm about to get some Bilsteins, and lower it (maybe an inch) with stock springs. Also soon on the list will be new sway bars.

I read up on this thread but I'm still left with some questions.

So i Know I should Disconnect the front sway bar, Make sure there’s not negative camber, and Overinflate the front tires. What else should I do for the track?

And basically, how necessary would traction rods be if I'm running street tires? And are there any differences between traction rods, toe rods, and camber rods? This page makes them look the same.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Its cool. I just didn't want people to think I came in here and started a thread without searching or reading first.

Mainly i'm concerned about traction arms and trying to minimize the wear and tear on the car (I know that there will always be a risk of breaking something while drag racing).

Get some drag radials for the strip! probably one of the best things you can do. Also rebuild your rear end if needed, doesn't cost very much. I'll have my car together by the end of next month and will be heading out to the strip in July if you want to tag along.

For sure, that sounds like a good time :icon_bigg

When you say "rebuild the rear end" what specifically do you mean?

Lipp traction arms are good in my opinion. This battle some shit brand... Doesn't seem right to me. And a1 components seems breakable .

Then there's modded stock bars. Their cheap.

Stock springs + Bilsteins @ drag strip = good idea.

Stock springs + Bilsteins @ auto-X = bad idea

Do not cut your springs. Just don't. If you want to lower it, proper lowering springs are available. They are inexpensive and safe. There are also coilovers available if you want your car to handle at the auto-X.

Do you have supporting mods to handle your 57 trim? What boost level are you running? Any tuning?

In my experience, good street tires should work fine at the track if it is prepped properly. When you reach higher power levels, slicks or drag radials will become necessary.

If you have wheels hop, you must fix this or you risk breaking expensive components. I fixed mine with full poly bushings, coilovers and LIPP traction arms. The car has a bit of -ve camber but still leaves the line decent.

Wasn't planning on cutting my springs. Bilsteins have adjustable spring perches (at least for Supras) so it can be lowered a bit...

I don't really want to bother with coilovers for my car since I'm just doing autocross for fun, and I'd prefer comfort over perfect handling that is rough. Plus I'm going to get sway bars soon as well.

Currently running stock boost levels on the 57 trim, but also on my list are MHG and EBC in that order... and traction arms look like a great investment for the $

Since when do things break while drag racing?

Apparently I should have made it MORE clear that i've already read this thread!

Maybe i should make it clearer, that I'd like advice based on what I already have, or anything else that the above thread DIDN'T cover.

But to reiterate the question i asked earlier, are there any differences between traction rods, toe rods, and camber rods? Is there anything else involved in rebuilding the "rear end" aside from the differental?

The rear end is the differential! There is a thread on SF about Joliroger rebuilding it and adding shims and taking out the crush sleeve.

Get you some traction arms if you want or take yours off and see if they are straight and if so go to a machine and have them beefed up a little.

But main thing is just to go out there, lower your tire pressure and run! Get some practice in, that is the most important thing you can do. I still have stock pretty much everything with some good drag wheels and tires, I just go out and practice and have fun.
