What can I do for my passing gear shift point?

I have even tried the dealer. They replaced the shift cable which I told them wasnt the whole issue because the car shifts fine when warm and driving casually.

When you floor it to get on the highway or break traction it wants to redline. When you release the gas it shifts. There has to be an adjustment or sensor that is causing this as it didnt do this before my famous engine cleaning death of my car.

Im going to replace the spring dampers on the front struts to stop my vibration issues... Im starting to think that issues my rims/tires.

The ISV valve is new and so are the vacuum lines are new as is the accordian hose. The car idles solid.
Still wont shift unless I let off the gas after punching it.

What you described sounds normal. When you go WOT, the trans should downshift, increasing RPM. If it goes all the way redline, it is slipping.

This does sound like a normal occurance. If you keep the pedal floored, the tranny will likely stay in 2nd gear until you blowup or let up.

My '89 owners manual states....

NOTICE:
Be careful not to overrev the engine. Watch the Tachometer to keep the engine rpm from going into the red zone. The maximum allowable speed (approx.) for each range is....

7m-ge: "2"....70mph "L" (1st gear)....38mph

7m-gte: "2"...78mph "L" (1st gear)....43mph

Do you drive with the tranny button in the 'Sport' mode??
This raises the upshift shift points about 500rpm.

You can adjust the throttle cable (at the throttlebody) per TSRM (pg A-19), or experiment a little with it and change the kick-down points there too.

I can practically guarantee you that there is no one at the dealer that knows MKIII supras (or MKIV). They are young techs, and work on cars that are newer than 10 years old (and more likely 5 years old).

You need to find someone like me in your area ! I was a master tech at Toyota in the '80's.:icon_razz

Just a reminder mrnick, I know it was a long time ago. ;) The cable only raises pressure, it does not change timing on ours.

Yep...that's right. :nono: It just raises/lowers line pressure for bit harder/softer shift feel (clutch pack application).
So that won't help. :icon_mad:

Have you checked for tranny codes?

Take a look at the troubleshooting for an auto:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AT&Page=23

In particular the voltage variance between diag block terminals Tt and E1...this is the tranny input from the TPS for throttle position signal.

May be a good idea to do a manual shift test as well ;)

If I drive the car normally it shifts fine. It was shifting fine until I washed the durned engine last fall then I began the never ending fixes from that.

What happens is if I break traction it does not shift it tries to go over redline.
If I pull from a complete stop and nail it it redlines. Now I would say it was slipping BUT before the shift cable was replaced it was barking the tires into second and it shifts well if I am rolling and drop it.

I am convinced its a bad TPS but I am not completely sure. As I said my engine cleaning (It needed a SERIOUS scrub down when I bought it) caused issues. The guy had a terrible mechanic in PA that half-assed repaired a lot of things on the car... You should see the catalytic converter... yeeeeez

Now I also flushed the tranny at the dealer and its nice and pink.
