ok, hanging out here with my little friend search! (yeah!) i have found that a noise i hear occasionly when at low boost (1-3 psi) i hear compressor surge! i have a aftermarket bov. el cheapo-jim-bobs country bunker bov (i think it used to say sumthin like nox?) it came with the car.

any how, ive been reading about people adjusting their bov. i get the point of hard or soft.

so, i guess im asking is if i adjust it softer, is it possiable that i could lessen the surge, or still have it and cause more problems?:1zhelp:

ill take pics of it in the morning. let me get your opinions.

welp you need to find a balence between driveability and ideal release point. depending on the design of the BOV, like say, its an HKS SSQV, you can loosen that thing up as much as you want and itll never leak under boost. other BOVs, you can not do that with.

the way i adjust mine usually is while the car is warmed up ill make it just tight enough that itll blow off if i rev it while idling to around 3500-4000rpm. with the SSQV there is an initial release of air, and then with more boost a louder chirp. i make it tight enough to hear a very lower than would be if it were under boost chirp.

i hope that made enough sense.

usually doing it that way has worked well for me, from there ill tighten it up as needed to keep the car from stalling out all the time and still having it blow off when i hit positive pressure.

to get rid of the low boost compressor surge you can run your aftermarket BOV with the stock or bosch recirculated BOV.

FWIW i dont have that problem with the SSQV i am running.

i have a greddy type RS and i recently noticed compressor surge when i was less than the 2 psi range ( even around when it goes outta vaccum before boost ( around the 0) so i loosened it until i didnt hear surge anymore. It stalls time to time but you get used to it and learn when to let out the clutch to keep it running when you feel a stall coming.

ok, heres a crap pic of the bov. (please dont mind the duct tape. i ran out of zip ties and the heat rap was rubbing the underside of the hood.)

i dont remeber how much was paied for it. its been on there since ive had it.

so maybe loosing it "could" help? i dont want to ruin my turbo and a lil short on cash to buy a new one.

well, in my opinion there is something to be said for how someone presents them self, and their project. IMO there is a lack of pride and care taken in the appearance of your engine bay. im not saying everyone has to spend a rediculous amount of money on parts, and as well all know, not many people find them selves in an ideal situation, but duct tape? come on.

anyway, thats just my opinion. ignore it, agree with it, disagree with it, whatever.

that duct tape though will melt over time leaving a nasty mess for you to clean up. and dont forget the fire hazard you have introduced by having it hanging down over the turbo like that. not smart.

a better solution, go get some worm clamps to secure that heat wrap.

i have new metal straps coming from my shop.

im still in the process of fixing things the previous owner neglected to do.

im trying to get things repaired still. one thing at a time. but when its your dd, that makes things a lil more difficult. i have nothing but pride for my supra.
