i'm getting a code 31 from my abs

Right front wheel speed sensor signal malfunction
-Speed sensor
-Sensor rotor
-Wire harness and connector of speed sensor

where is the sensor located? is it common for these to go out or should i be looking for a wiring problem? any fuses to check?

It is mounted on the spindle.

It rare that they go bad, but it does happen. Could be a wiring problem also. No fuse that could cause any problem.

Best bet would be to follow the TSRM test procedures.

It is right behind the brake disc, just remove the wheel, caliper, and rotor, and you will see what looks like a drum with notches in it that go all the way around it...look for the only wire leading to that area, it's the speed sensor, should be pretty obvious.

edit: aahh...cjsupra beat me to it. But yea, you can't go wrong if you follow the TSRM...just don't look at the head bolt torque specs...;).

right. check the sensor with a multi meter as per the tsrm. you need to check for a resistance between the terminals in the plug (something like 1.3k ohms) and for no continuity between the sensor body and each terminal in the plug.

depending on how old the car is and condition of that area (is it rusty) you may be easier trying to swap a whole steering knuckle from a car with a good sensor.

thats what i ended up doing as removing the sensor ended up buggering the wheel bearing
