i think i'm ready to finally put out the cash and buy a 1jz off ebay. But before I do, is there anything i should look for that will make it uncompatable with my 88 supra? I know that the soarer ecu wont work and somebody told me something bout the sump in the oil pan. Any quick info would be a huge help.

If you look around there's plenty of info. First thing you'll need to know is that the 1j motor mount brackets won't bolt into an '88. You either need an 89+ crossmember or something like BIC's adapter brackets. Also you really want a 1jz that was out of a supra, one from another car will cause you several problems(like the oil pan sump, the wiring, etc). Also make sure you are getting an uncut harness with it and verify you are getting an ignitor and map sensor. You can get a motor cheaper without these things, but trying to find the parts you need later is not very easy.

Yes I agree. Finding the igniter was hard enough but im still trying to find a map sensor, and im waiting for my harness b/c I got one from 935motorsports. Its supposed to be direct plug n play harness. Granted it was $850 but at least I know the harness will do the job and me not screw it up. My advice is go through somewhere that deals in front clips that way you know you have everything. Something else to consider is if you buy a clip you could do a right hand drive conversion, or just take the remains to the scrap yard or something of that nature and get a little of your hard earned money back. Make buying a 1jz worth your while instead of running around trying to find parts like me. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!!!

You will need a 1jz flywheel, and r-154 to 1jz bellhousing if you have the r-154. Just those two parts will run ~600 if you don't already have them.

what does everyone think about the wiring issue, would it be more worth the money and hassle to buy a harness from 935 motorsports or lengthen it myself?

Just tuck it through the right spot in the firewall and you only have to lengthen 18-30 wires depending on options. It's not bad at all and sure beats the time it would take to lengthen the whole harness or the money it takes to buy the 935 harness.

my dad was saying to just cut it at the ecu and lenghten what needs to be lenghtened from there, because the only difference is the location of the computer correct? i am however a little iffy cuz my car is an 88 and idk if the wiring will be different, will i need to change plugs from the 7m harness to the 1j harness?
