A very stupid question.

Well actually 2.

1. Is the turbo supposed to spool and everything if its in neutral. My friend's turbo works fine but it doesnt spool in neutral.

2.My friend has a k&n filter on his car. If the filter is really dry and un-oiled, can it keep the car from being started? He puts some oil and it and boom, it starts up fine.

i think it spools up if you rev the motor in nuetral ..how else would you hear that woosh sound when you got a aftermarket bov..you gotta build boost to hear wooosh

depends on the size of the motor and size of the turbo. on a small displacement motor with a small garden mower sized turbo, yeah youll be able to blow off every time you let off the throttle. like an srt4 for example.

When he removed the filter... he probably took out the AFM... and when he put it back in, he probably connected the AFM.

she'll still start with the afm unplugged, will idle fine to, just wont rev higher than 1k.

but anyway both questions are answered with a no.

Most people try to start and depress the gas pedal, and if you do that with no AFM it won't start.

:dunno: meh, i guess i'm the only one who doesnt try to give it gas when starting. maybe it was heatsoaked or something.

I dont get it for the 2nd question though. It always works that way, it was just not one time.... Ah well, i should post again after I get more information on that.

The filter shouldn't matter but just to be sure check and see if the big nut located just behind the steering wheel is loose

if thats the case then you can be sure that the AFM is borked.

you can have the BOV sound at neutral. If the timing's off, it will make enough boost
