A very interesting idea...or at least I think so.

I was looking around cause I was bored, and I found a site where a VG30DETT front clip (engine+5 spd tranny) was 1500 bucks, much cheaper than the 1JZ clips. It makes me wonder, why has no one experimented with this idea yet? Is it because people refuse to put a nissan engine in a toyota, or this idea is simply dumb/impossible?

I don't think it would be worth it when you can build a 7M/1J/2J for cheaper, and easier. Have you seen those engines? they barely fit in the 300ZX... It can't be easy shoehorning a V6 into a car built for in I6.

Its possible it would fit, but they are a bitch To work on.

Even changing a lower radiator hose can take a long time..., hell, even to change the intake takes like an hour!

try it. go buy a $500 mk3 and get that clip.... it's better than putting a chevy v8 in it, at least it's staying true to the import tuner

I still like the idea of putting a 1j/2j/7m in a 300zx/240sx more than a VG in a supra

Not to be rude, but what is the point of this post?

Doesn't have anything to do with brand loyalty the way I see it. If someone wanted to trade me straight up for an RB26, I'd take it without a second thought.

2 things,

1. 1Js and 2Js are very straightforward swaps. Done often and documented. Direct drop in more or less.

2. The VG30 doesn't really offer anything over the JZ series. They have been taken out of Zs in favor of JZ motors and RB motors a number of times, though.

I'd rather build up a 7M than put a VG30 in my Supra to be honest.

The clip may be about $1000 in savings over a 1J clip but the 1k you save there will more than likely be made up in fabrication, harness work, and other misc. things.

Thanks for the solid reponse. I guess it's mainly just a matter of who did what more than the other. (referring to the first point)

Plus, VGs tend to explode over 500 whp without building them immensely.

I can vouch for this, even below those numbers you start running into problems.. VTC clacking is a huge annoyance IMO and a slew of other stuff. I hang around alot of Nissan guys and any of them with first hand knowledge will tell you way more than I cold about the engines short comings. I've only worked on them a bit and my biggest complaint was vacuum leaks in my case, just because theres SO many damn lines and once the engine is in the car good luck fixing anything.

Also, I agree completely with what OneJoe said.
