Finally got the motor rebuilt and took it for a test drive. I barely got down the street when the motor started to knock. (insert favorite cuss words)!! I turned the car around and drove back into the shop. We started the the tear down and found a crack in #5 cylinder wall. It's about an inch long. And when I put the head back on I crushed the new head gasket. Well it happens. The previous owner rebuilt the motor and then ran it hot.
Plan B:
Take two motors and try and build one. The original block and head are still good and have already been machined. Just have to get new bearings for the crank and rods, new rings and a head gasket. Around $400....
