I have to be careful about this. Not lose my temper. I asked my friend whom I've known relatively well for about 4 years now, to see if he knew anyone who could build my Supra motor. He claimed to know some guy from SP-Engineering in the City of Industry. So I asked him if he could inquire about working on my 7M, as the money I am putting into my project daily driver Neon (seperate thread) is seperate from that of the Supra. All I asked for was basic cleanup, cylinder boring and head/block machining. My friend replied by claiming the guy refused to work on a 7M because he believes MK3's suck. I don't know if he is lying or not, but I doubt he is, since SP Engineering has done many Mark 4 Supra's, and we all know the inflated ego's of those people. This makes my resolve to be able to beat the living shit out of a Mark 4 burn even hotter. Sure it's a Supra... but why are they attached to such egotistical blowhards? Another friend of mine put it aptly: "if he wants to choose between motors he works on because he claims one is better than the other, he should just quit working on them at all." I didn't get it at first, then it hit me. IIRC gasoline engines are only about 30% efficient in transfering the BTU's in gasoline to usable power. The rest is lost due to heat and friction.

So I come away with this. The ricer's dream car, the Mark 4, is usually attached to a jackass. SP Engineering does not welcome MK3's. He has added fuel to my fire by being a bigot. The Mark 3 has faults, but it isn't like the Mark 4 is perfect. I like McDonald's.

the bigger the name and the bigger the bucks (or the lower the age!)...the bigger the ego. It applies to most anything: cars, guns, games, etc...

Why don't you call SP and find out if this is true before you get totally bent out of shape. Get ahold of the guy's name that your friend supposedly knows and ask to talk to him. Hell, talk to somebody else to see if they're interested in working on it for you.

I've bought several parts from SP from Hugh, who has given me some pretty killer deals. I would gladly take my business elsewhere if I found out that SP as a whole was against the MKIII.

A car has to evolve for f*ck's sakes!

hehe, just remember, our MKIII's are the ones that paved the true way of the Supra. our MKIII's were the first ones to convert into the solo name of the Supra, and not be a part of another car (celica supra). in fact, our model held the prototype for their engine (1jz). they are probably just too self indulged and filled with vanity to actually sit down and learn some education on history and manners.

well i had 2 mark 3's and now im moving to a mark 4, only because i can afford it with my own money. now i understnad what you guys feel i felt that too about every person that said "thats a supra?" or "you should have got the newer one" it pissed me off.

and i wont lie, the mark 4 is a nice car, but love mark 3s with a passion most would understand.

the mark 3's were the ones who started the whole supra line.

with out the mark 3's where would the mark 4 be. in a hole.

what pisses me off is how people totally forget about our gen cars, as if they never existed, and yet they can beat any honda or nissan out there.

Yeah... WTF is a MKII anyway. /\

Only the BEST Supra ever!

But honestly, I've wanted a mkIV since I got my first Supra at 15 (almost 6 years ago) and after owning two mkIII's and more mkII's than I can count, I must say that I am actually starting to like the mkIII more than the mkIV... it's weird for me to think that way, but I guess the 80's brought more than just some kick-ass hairstyles.......

Anyword on what was actually said though?

I think that there is an important distinction between those Supra owners who have progressed from MK3 to MK4 and those who have never had anything to do with Toyota before they bought their MK4's. All the mk4 drivers that I know who have previously owned mk3's are respectful and very intelligent. I think the problematic people are those who are too self absorbed to learn history.

boom its on!!! he got it. all those spoiled bithces that get an mkiv right off the bat, refuse to look at the supras past, becuase thier car is so nice.

i agree those who are really SUPRA owners know more than the fact the the mkiv was in the fast and furious.

real supra owners are indeed intelligent and know that the mkiii done right is one of the mot powerful cars.

If he DID say that MkIIIs suck, maybe he meant "they can suck to work on AND most MkIII owners are cheap bastards".

...they should make all of the fuckin newbie ricers who actually get their greasy paws on a MkIV have the NA model. It should be a law. No.. a commandment.

Try thinking about it like this - you bring a 1980 Mk1 supra to a performance shop and they refuse saying we only work on mk3's. That's a little more reasonable, right?

So yeah, find out what the guys at SP say about it. I'm pretty curious about it, too.

Lanky-The pic of you in your sig is borderline NWS. ;) I think I'd get talked to at work if the computer guys found that pic in my history.

Got an Update. I MUST APOLOGIZE TO SP ENGINEERING. Since I went through a third party (My friend justin), we got our lines mixed up. It turns out Justin was recommending SP Engineering as a place to take my Supra. But while talking about his friend who did refuse to work on my MK3, I was asking where the shop was, and he thought I meant if he knew of a different shop. The actual culprit is indirectly RB Motoring. It's not an employee of RB Motoring, but a friend of the business whom my friend knows. Yeah complicated. Either way, I'm feeling pretty funny since today is my birthday, and I get a message from Supramania wishing me one. That was the FIRST one today. Also feeling pretty shitty since I just failed a strength of materials quiz. An EASY one....

I gotta say sorry to SP Engineering again and hopefully any of my banter didn't do any damage to their reputation. But as for the other guy, maybe it isn't RB Motoring directly, but it's just that one guy ( I think his name is Mike something), THAT still makes me a little pissed. Damn Drama.. I need to study.

It's not complicated - those Skyline guys aren't big fans of the Supra. When the 1JZ came out, they were kinda pissed, since it had less displacement than the top RB engine and still had a stronger bottom end.
