Hello fellas, i have a 96' 318is and shortly after getting it i started to get the itch for speed hahaha. A s50/52 swap which comes from my generations m3 costs around 4500 for a good swap but is only 240hp. So i opted for a 1jz

my swap is going pretty smooth except ive been having difficulty routing like 3 or 4 lines and that engine fan fluid reservoir

1st question is where do these metal lines from the back of the intake mani go? i know the small one is for the evap canister and one is for fuel returm from the fuel rail but where does the line thats the same size as the fuel return go to?

second question is where does this hose on the block by the tranny go? i assume its the return for the coolant but im just not sure
p1712653_2.jpg

Third question is where this metal line behind the pipe for the stock BOV go? is it coolant related?
p1712653_3.jpg

Lastly....I am using electric fans and deleting the hydrofan so my understanding is i need a oil cooler(which i bought) but do i keep the reservoir or run the lines straight to the oil cooler?

Thanks alot guys, im really excited to get the car cranked and these are the only things holding me back. here is a pic of the car im building for clicks and opinions

I don't know about the 1st pic off the top of my head, but the 2nd and third picture are coolant lines to and from the heater core.

As for the hydrofan delete, you could run a cooler and just loop the lines on the pump, but it would be far cleaner and simpler to just swap the whole unit out for the clutch fan water pump. If you're running e-fan you can just leave it with only the pulley bolted to it.

this is great info, i really appreciate the help. i dont know anybody with a 1jz or a toyota for that matter.

so loop them together like run a line from the metal loop to the hose out of back of the head?

why is there no info online about those vac lines also?

1j info is basically a collection of experience that people in North America have had with them, so it's been one of those 'everybody is learning as we go things'. 5 years ago 1j info was few and far between compared to now.

To answer one your questions, yes, loop the heater hoses to each other if you want to bypass the heater.

Nice looking car by the way, that thing is friggin slammed haha... watch out for speed bumps!

thanks! i'm and advocate of spinning the coils down haha.

ill try and contribute as much info as possible since there isnt much. once i get the engine in and running right ill draw up a legit vacuum diagram that isnt half complete:icon_evil

hopefully that will help others in the same position im in.

i found a couple 1j vacuum diagrams with the help of google images... i'm also 95% sure all the lines on mine are ran correctly if you need pics (we have to wire mine up still)

One of the lines goes up under the manifold to the idle speed control valve. It will have coolant going through it and the other end should go to the throttle body.

Really should ditch the entire hydrofan water pump. Its big and bulky. Have the take off the timing belt to do that and might as well replace it while your there. You can get a belt of a 89 izuzu 4 banger for like 10$ at rockauto.

ahhhh now were getting to some good stuff

i dont know WHY i didnt put 2 and 2 together that the iscv would be directly connected to the TB.

i was running that line from the metal vac tubes to the vac nipple right under that sensor in the middle of the inside part of the manifold. now that vac line is empty...i might just cap it and see if it idles fine.

mk3*supra: id love some clear pics of the vac line routing. ill use your pics to come up with a legit diagram for people in my position

ALSO can i use that isuzu belt if i run no ac?

Neither has to have coolant running through it but it might idle like shit if you live in cold climates when the engine is cold.

Would need to loop the lines correctly in order to bypass both. Iac coolant lines would way easier to install with the engine out of the car too.

its going to be a stripped interior race car that i only will drive in the warmer months so im not particularly worried about it but i will drive it well in to november where the temps drop considerably so that is something to consider, thanks man.

any vac line pics or info to compile a legit diagram would be greatly appreciated
