A few question to ask

Instead of making multiple threads I'll post all my questions here.

1. I want to add rear pass. speakers to my '87. How did you guys go about doing this? Wiring? Brackets? Pics?

2. For those who painted their gauge needles, was there a special paint you used? Or cound it be any type of paint? I know to just paint the side that is painted.

Please help me answer these questions.

Thanks

you mean replace the rear speakers? it's not the easiest thing ever, but it's surely not difficult either. you just pop off the covers, and use an angled screwdriver, if i remember correctly, then do the opposite to get the new ones in.

personally, i just did away with mine, and the housings/boxes for them, and put 6x9's in the trunk. ;)

as for the gauge needles, just dont put the paint on super thick, but enough to get the color you're looking for.

All interior pieces are out of the car since I just finishes sound deadening the entire car. I have both boxes out and was wondering what the biggest speaker I can put in the factory boxes. I also wanted to know If it would be worth adding a second set of speakers like the 91+ has. These would be the speakers that face the driver mounted behind the rear seats.

I have the six-speaker system in my 91 and it sounds terrible, with aftermarket stereo, etc. I just left 2 of the rear ones disconnected, so that it would be like what I had in my 87T... sounds much better. The 4 speakers in the back, appear to run off of the same channels and unless you've got the right ohms, etc going back there, they just won't sound very good.

Also, what I did before when I did my indiglo guages in the 87T was to use slut-red nailpolish (borrowed from a friend's GF), and just lightly paint over the orange in the needle, before reinstalling. Looked pretty good.

Good luck!

So the 4 pseaker ystem with 4" speakers aound better, What about increasing the size of the front and rears and leaving it a 4 speaker system.

Did you scrap the orange off the needle beofre painting?

I didn't scrape the orange off the needles, but I guess it wouldn't hurt. Probably not worth the extra step. The results were still very good.

I'm sure you can go bigger on the speakers, but I'd still keep it limited to 4 speakers (unless your head-unit supports more thn 4 channels - most don't).

I have a 4-channel 52-watt per speaker deal and some Infinity 4" speaker... then a sub/amp channel with about 250 wats to a Pioneer 8" sub. Sounds pretty decent, but the sub/amp could use a little updating. We are making ourselves some fiberglass enclosures and installing a couple of Pyle 8" subs in place, as well as replacing the amp.

i custom mounted rockford fosgate 150w 6.5's in my doors, (just cut the opening so it's a bit bigger, lest the sound quality suck) and put 350w pioneer 6x9's in boxes in the trunk. it sounds good, to say the least. it's not by any means a show winner, but it puts the stock 4" speakers to shame. :)

I didn;'t think that 6.5" speakers fit in the front doors unless you had 91+ door panels and speaker grilles. How much plastic did you dremel away to fit them in the stock 4" boxes. Also did you mount the 6x9" speaker in the rear boxes or did you mount them in a seperate box. This is the type of set up that I'll be looking for.

My head unit is a Pioneer Avic-N1, sub an Alpine Type R, amp is a Alpine D-Clas 350 mono block. Im thinking of putting this in my Daily Driver and getting a 8" Kicker Comp and different Amp and possibly a new deck. First I want to mount the speakers first. I don;t want my systme to pund, but just to have good sound quality. My current speakers have no base at all, and when I listen the the 6x9's in my DD the stereo sounds 10x better.

i removed the stock speakerboxes, and custom mounted them. i cut the opening for the speaker in the metal door insert where the grille fits into. the 6x9's are mounted in separate boxes, strapped in behind the back seats, facing the hatch area. the sound bounces off the window, im assuming, and it's got some bass.

Shaeff... do you get a rattle in the door from removing the speaker bpx and just mounting them in the door. My entire car is sound deadened so I should be fine. When I get home I'll take a closer look to see what you did with the front speakers, unless you have pics you can show me. Did you cut the metal of the door or just the door panel. That is where I'm confused. Sorry

I just tok out the whole rear seat altogether! I could easily fit a set of Audiobahn 12's back there for needed rump! Like there are going to be any passengers back there!!!
