I picked up an 88 supra a little over a week ago for $350.00 I fixed all the engine problems and now it runs like a champ. I am getting it painted tomorrow and it's in the A/C shop getting the expansion valve replaced. First off, i want to Put headers and exhaust and intake on it. I know this is a pretty generic question but I have heard that the 7MGE responds extremely well to bolt ons that allow better flow. What kind of HP gains are realistic from these mods? I have already advanced the timing to 15* BTDC and run 93 octane.

eh, you'll gain a little, but not nearly as much as a turbo car. in my opinion, an N/A isnt worth modding. i found that out quickly before i blew my N/A motor;)

on the N/A, you'll gain about 10hp or so from an exhaust, where with a turbo car you'll gain roughly 20-30hp. get the picture?

but, some people have some relatively quick N/A's. dean marcum being one of them, and DEFIANT7M, also.

i have full custom exhaust, header, coldair intake and other little tweaks and there nice but theres not a big difference in power for thr price but your GE will have much better response. If you plan on keeping your supra for a whyle its better to save up some cash and go for a 7mgte because lik shaeff said those same mods will yeild much more power on a gte.

When my car was a N/A I got headers. But after receiving them and comparing them to the stock exhaust, they looked almost identical. So I never put them on. I'd say don't waste money on headers.

Just placed headers on mine and eliminated the resonator. That front pipe /downpipe on mine was rotted out and toyota wanted $250 + for it , the local mufler shops here are a discrace, so I went with the pacesetter header got it for $199 to my door , yes i did stip and painted it with heat paint , lol, if you go with that make be prepared to grind on the flange that meets the head in two places, also had to enlarge the bolt holes, Not sure if they made inprovments but found the pipe going to the cat to be fine and less restictive then the stock one. I think it was worth it for me anyway. have had the car for 9 years and seams to be better then ever. first post here for me, adicted to reading on this site , great work!!! 87 NY state supra (salt free) and no BHG , (stop that talk) :icon_bigg

Just FYI: It's a HEADER ('exhaust manifold' is much less redneck, IMO). 'Headers' is plural and indicates multiple heads, ie a V engine (v6, v8, v10, v12). The same goes for those who say they got their 7m "Heads redone". :squint:
