people will react to this the same way they react to the 2jz Camaro..

Personally, I dont mind I love the Grand National, and Turbo Formula Trans Ams, with their Turbo V6's, but we'll see how it goes...

I think thats a great idea for ford, I just wonder about the quality..and yes as 10secondzx2 said, they need to do something about that interior rattle. I drove a rental mustang with under 30k on it, and it rattled horribly.

we'll see how it turns out...

The 89 TA was pretty much a GNX with a TA shell.

Yes, the Turbo T/A's where the fastest, faster than the vettes of that year as well.

If I remember right, the GNX was the fastest in the 1/4 though because the suspension was tuned specificly for it.

Yes, the fox bodies had the turbo 4 bangers which when built right are absolute nightmares. I have never seen one in shitty condition since none of the rednecks would touch a 4 banger...

I'd buy a new mustang....if they came with IRS...

I may be wrong but I believe the roush and the saleen come with independent rear suspension.

I've seen one in shitty condition lol

Still ran great, it was fairly quick, faster than a stock GT up to 2004.

Ive always said they should put turbos in the pony cars...or make smaller cousins, like the solstice, but only in 4 seat coupe form. Like a car the size of the 944 or 240sx with turbo 4 cylinders for under 30k. Would be a good seller in this gas mileage hyped economy

Why does everyone think turbo = hella import.

It was buick who used the first turbocharger in a production car.

Domestic guys love turbos just as much as you do, trust me, coming from a guy whos been there.

I'm not too sure about those two but the 02 and 03 Cobra's had IRS, and they're just as fast as the GT500's (the new one) But the new body mustangs are way to heavy, the GT500 is around 3950lbs without the driver lol. A turbo 6 and a diet would be cool tho. It was either BMW with the 2002Tii Turbo or the T/A Firehawk that was the first turbo production car, the Bimmer was a late 60's but not many made but the Firehawk was early 70's and there were a few, but thats off the top of my head give or take a few years

Ford also has a supercharged V6, called Teurer or something like that. IIRC Shelby mods them. 400+hp (again, IIRC).

Read about it in Hot Rod a while back.

Turbo Jetfire

In 1962 and 1963 Oldsmobile built a turbocharged version of the 215. The small-diameter turbocharger was manufactured by Garrett AiResearch and produced a maximum of 5 lbf/in² (34 kPa) boost at 2200 rpm. The engine had 10.25:1 compression and a single-barrel carburetor. It was rated at 215 hp (160 kW) @ 4600 rpm and 300 ft·lbf (406 N·m) @ 3200 rpm. The high compression ratio created a serious problem with spark knock on hard throttle applications, which led Olds to use a novel water-injection system that sprayed small amounts of distilled water and methyl alcohol (dubbed "Turbo-Rocket Fluid") into the combustion chambers to cool the intake charge. If the fluid reservoir was empty, a complex double-float and valve assembly in the Turbo-Rocket Fluid path would set a second butterfly (positioned between the throttle butterfly and the turbocharger) into the closed position, limiting the amount of boost pressure. Unfortunately, many customers did not keep the reservoir filled, or had mechanical problems with the turbocharger plumbing.

The turbocharger was offered only in a special Jetfire model, which was the first turbocharged passenger car offered for public sale. Only 9,607 were sold in two model years, and many were converted by dealers to conventional four-barrel carbureted form.
