the A/C hasn't worked in my car since I got, and I am just now wanting to investigate it (with summer just around the corner) so this is what happens: when i push the A/C button on the climate control, nothing happens, no relay click sound, no change in idle, no sounds at all... and no cold air.

Could this just be a relay?? I can't figure out why, even if the compressor were fried, wouldn't it still get power and operate?

freon is a gas, more than likely you have r12 wich is very expensive, your best bet is to do a retro kit to 134 a, new seal, ac drier etc.. probalby about 300.00 if done correctly. find a good ac shop in your area now before it gets warmer and they wannna charge you more to do it.

huh? Gas???
FREON. There is a 'low pressure' switch in the line to save the compressor from burning up if the system gets too low on freon.

It sounds like you should let a proffesional tackle this repair for you. Sometimes you just have to pay someone else for certain repairs.

how expensive is r-12, wasn't there a guy on here a while back that said he could get it for pretty cheap?? or maybe it was supra digest... oh, and is $300.00 for DIY, or at a shop?

that is a shops cost, i was quoted 400.00 to convert mine, i do all my repairs but for the price included new parts/seals/evac old system, and refill.. r12 is really really REALLY expensive. trust me go w/ the conversion
