My brother got his license and his first car. For some reason my mom didn't listen to what I had to say and got him a Saturn from a shady dealership. Well I told her something would happen, and now this car is leaking coolant hardcore. I drove it downtown and on the way back it started smoking so I pulled over and put some coolant in the reservoir. The temp gauge didn't register that it was overheating or anything. There is a hose that comes out from underneath the reservoir and it looks like the coolant shot out of it. My friend was thinking that the thermostat might be stuck and it builds up pressure and explodes out where the hose is clamped on. I'm still rebuilding my supra and now my mom and brother want me to fix his car now. Anyone have an idea how this could be dealt with? Thanks for reading.

good 'ol Saturns...I have a '95 SL-2 with 196k on it, and they really aren't that bad for the price, mine has been good to me. it DOES love to eat oil tho!! the oil control rings on these engines get gummed up real easily, so make sure your brother checks the oil often.

anyways, have you looked to see if it is just a worn out hose from the reservoir that is leaking? If it was the thermostat not opening, the temp sensor should indicate it running hot pretty quick. since your just loosing coolant, I would let it warm up and try to spot the leak.

do you have any pics?

my aunt had one, best little car ever, it never once gave her problems..

if he knew there was something wrong with it when he sold it to you and didn't tell you, then he's definitely liable for something..

if it were due to your brother's ignorance or neglect, (such as not checking vital fluids), then I don't see why the dealer would be liable for it...

but yeah, get it checked out by a mechanic to determine what it may be..

I made sure to check everything on it. My mom just took it to a shop. Bad sensor in the reservoir and the thermostat was bad. Like me and my friend thought

I've never been around saturns before. I always thought they where crummy cars, but I guess I just need to give them a chance. All the hoses have been replaced before they bought the car too.
