Yeah, quite a ways back I started a thread because I was looking for a new summertime daily driver so that I could use the Pickup for winter mostly.

I always have two cars on the road at the same time, and one of them is always my Pickup. It's super reliable, and mighty useful, too. ;)

Back around April or May I decided against a Lexus, and started looking for a decent BMW for a DD. I stumbled across what's now one of the best cars I've driven: 1995 BMW M3 3.0L 5 speed, Cosmoschwarz (black w/ blue metallic) exterior, Black leather Vader (the Vaders are the front seats) interior, with only 87k original miles.

It had some body damage in the rear, the shifter was sloppy as hell, the radiator leaked, and the back tires were on the brink of having cords exposed. Kelley blue book value on the car put it around 8K, as everything else was pretty much perfect.

I took it for a test drive and fell in love. I met the guy the next day w/ $6500 cash (he was asking $8500), told him to take it or leave it. I walked out with the key and title in my hands. :)

On to the pics:

You can see at the back side of the rear wheel well, it needed a small amount of bodywork:

I got that taken care of three days after I bought the car. More pics:

I decided that the 7.5" M Contour rims weren't wide enough. The car is supposed to have 235/40r17's all around (changed to 245 rear and 225 front for '96+ M3's), but the previous owner put crappy Nexxen 225/40's all around. Seriously not grippy enough for my tastes, so I started looking around for something wider. Just looking, though.

In the meantime, aside from the bodywork, I did the following maintenance items/upgrades:

-Giubo (driveshaft flex joint)
-New rear tires (same as the crappy ones that were on there so I can sell the set of four when I'm done w/ these rims)
-New ambient temp sensor (for the on board computer, tells ambient temp, etc..)

Modifications:
- X-brace
- Ipod input/stock stereo (very careful soldering to the tape deck;))
- UUC Evo III SSK w/ DSSR - awesome short throw shifter
- Ireland Engineering Aluminum Radiator - thicker than stock, no crappy plastic end tanks.
- Generic cone filter intake- came on the car. :(
- UUC Red poly transmission mounts- Mine were toasted
- Redline D4ATF- (the ZF transmission calls for ATF, but when I get a lightweight flywheel/beefier clutch, I'll go w/ Redline MTL)

Keep in mind that all along I'd been looking for new rims. Nothing yet... However, I decided that the stock s50 3.0L is too slow for me. I did tons of homework, and decided to turbocharge the car w/ a T4 flanged GT35r. Still deciding on A/Rs and whatnot, but I'm in the beginning phase of gathering parts. I've got a guy making me a custom tubular manifold right now. ;)

And finally, I found some wheels that I like. They're 17x9 ET40 Forgeline RS Comps. They're pretty rare in this form, and only weigh 18lbs! I've got them at my place now, but no tires yet. The plans are to stuff either 255's or 265's in all four corners of the car. Should be sick w/ some sways and coilovers.

This model M3 is on my short list of cars to own pretty soon. Good find. And since you plan on turboing it, how much hp can the tranny handle safely without eating itself up?

The basic deal that everyone over on bimmerforums.com's forced induction section is this:

.140 MLS headgasket to drop the compression, ARP 2000 studs, and the appropriate hardware (turbo, manifold, piping, etc...) and those guys are making 480-500rwhp @ around 18psi on a GT35r w/ the stock tranny and rear. Upgraded clutch is a must, obviously. The M3 tranny is stronger than the non M tranny is, though. For tuning, I'm lucky because I'm OBD1, so I can get a custom tuned chip from The Racer's Market. They'll burn me a chip, I run a datalog and send it back with the chip and they'll tweak it for me.

The OBD2 guys have it a bit harder, but they're getting close to cracking the software hack fully and reliably from what I've read. (which isn't much, as I don't have OBD2!)

I envy you, I want those wheels!!! My stupid SSR's still aren't done...
:) You can have first refusal if I ever decide to sell them, which isn't likely. ;) I need to find someplace to get them refinished. I want them to be perfect again!

Hmmm, intereseting intake plenum and runners.

Nice ride. Did he have the original wheels?
Agreed, there's a guy who makes Ron R. style FFIM's for these cars. I might look him up. :naughty: I wish the P.O. had the original wheels. I like the style of the Contours, but the chrome kills them for me. :( (and they're too narrow)

Thanks. :) I'll post on BF.c when I get further along with the project. It's going to be a slow one. Get on that! I'll sell you my Cartech manifold! ;)

I kinda feel like selling the 240 to turbo or supercharge my M3.
Do it! Go turbo. If you read up on all the big power turbo guys, most of them started w/ superchargers, but were unhappy with the power delivery, as well as overall power.

Its pretty! and yeah when i was going to buy one of these i read up on the turbo systems and these motors, especially the 3.0 vs the 3.2, really like boost. I really loved everything about the car except for the power really. It didnt have enough for my to trade in my mr2 on. But still sick car and in nicer shape than you made it sound. good deal too!

Love it.

Almost bought one myself. But it had prior accident damage and a salvage title. :(
Thanks. :) It's a blast to drive, too. Not very fast (well, not as fast as my Supra was before I took it off the road). Boo for salvage title!

Thanks! Ideally, I'd like to get a 3.2 ('96-99) motor and use all my OBD1 parts, then turbocharge it. But for the power level I'm going for it wouldn't be worth it. Rolling into the throttle through the corners is an absolute blast. When I test drove it, I tried to keep peak power out of my mind, but rather take the car for what it is.

Not a highway killer like the Supra, but once you go into the twisties it really shines. Even with the 225's all around. It's also very well balanced, and despite the heavy steering (lots of road input), it's a very light car and it's very easy to toss around. I reached the limit of the crappy NEXXEN N3000 tires two times before I put the car in storage for winter.

Both times it was warm out, and at least the breakaway was progressive. It was very easy to control, even though it scared me at first. LOL.
