ok so i want to swap everything from a 86.5 mk3 to a 89....
the 86.5 chassis isnt in best condition and will probably be parting it out. Originally i was going to drop everything into my sc300 but that will have to wait. Either way i have a few questions which hopefully you guys will be able to help me with.

I was looking at the wiring harness and in the ecu side there seems to be way more body plugs on the 89 than in the 86...which is confusing the shit out of me. I believe i counted 5 plugs instead of the 2? i see on the 86.

The 89 does have ABS and the 86 does not. The 89 had an Auto in it before but will be converted to 5spd. Besides that i have no idea why the big diff. I was told i can just swap out the body/dash harness and it should work, is this correct? If not please let me know what i could do. here are some pics

thx for the help.

One of the plugs in the 89 picture doesn't go to the engine harness, the one on the upper left there might be for the AC amp.

It looks like you have a really rare 89 in that it has the 90+ wiring in it. Almost every 89 I've ever seen has had what is basically 88 wiring with some small changes.

The bad news about that is that nothing will be plug and play for you. The big square B1 plug will have to be changed for the newer B1 plug, although the wires are in roughly the same place on both plugs.

The other plug in the 86 is M1 (the dash wiring). Your 89 also has B2 (TEMS, Cruise, Auto stuff) and B3 (ABS) plugs.

You really only need the B1 and M1 plug, you can run the ABS wiring from the transmission to the B3 plug separately if you want that to work (or try to find it in the 1jz harness).

I would really recommend against swapping the dash harness. Its a real PITA, and you can get your 86 rewired to a '90' style fairly easily (if you have the plugs). You may also run into some issues with the dash harness because there were quite a few changes in the dash between 86 and that late 89 wiring you have, and your ABS wouldn't work for sure.

Looks like they hacked the 1jz harness and put the yellow 87 body connectors on it. It's gonna be some work to undo what they did.

On mine I got lucky and they left the 1jz harness untouched. So All I had to do was make a Jumper harness. I'll get those pics for you soon.

Sorry about the crappy pics. First two pics are of the three Body harness plugs. Next Three are the engine harness Plugs. Last two are of the jumper harness I made to connect the 1jz harness to the body or dash harness. Then one of the finished product.

ok couple of questions....hopefully you guys will be able to help
Are the 2jzge motormounts the same as the 1jzgte's?
Will the 2jzge ac compressor bolt onto the 1jz?
Will the PS pump bolt onto the 1jz?
Alternator?
Knock sensor?

thanks in advance

Yes, the motor mount bolt pattern to the block is the same.
The AC compressor will bolt up, might not plug right into the wiring though.
The PS pump will bolt up if you unbolt the reservoir from the top and bolt on the nipple to connect a remote one.
Alternator will bolt up, and the connector is even the same.
I don't know about the knock sensor.
