91 Supra Starting Issue [VIDEO]

So I'm thinking of picking up this 91 for parts and shit. The thing is beat to hell but he's not asking too much. It won't start though, he said that he had it running like a few days ago, but when he cleaned the motor with degreaser, the next time he tried to start it, it wouldn't. He says his mechanic neighbor claimed it was the injectors or a fueling issue? The car was advertised as a 91 turbo, and it has the 7mgte but no turbo. Ghetto. Here's a vid...

What does it seem like the problem is?

how much is he asking?

do the simple things first... check the plugs, timing, and fuel.
Check the AFM.. air filter.. etc

sounds like the guy either doesnt know what he is talking about since he doesnt even know what car he selling.
you should also find out how long he owned the car and do a free check to see how many owners there were.
ask if he has any maintenance records. it will give you an idea what kind of shape the car is in and how well the car was cared for.

You said it has a 7mgte but no turbo? or was it an 7mge? maybe the guy did a reverse na-t?...lol

No, he bought it about a week ago and all of a sudden it wouldn't start. It's a 7mgte motor, has the intercooler, piping, but it had a N/A exhaust manifold, no turbo. So like they just swapped the exhaust manifold out for a N/A one.

sounds like he bought the car for the turbo and now trying to get rid of it. chances are the car prob still has the turbo harness and computer. i havent had personal experience trying to run a turbo car without the turbo but it seems like and messed up situation and i would stay away from it

Uh.. WTF? I see the 3000 pipe, I see the coil pack covers, how the hell is it gonna run without the turbo? Unless He used a GE exhaust manifold, exhaust and hooked his AFM directly to the 3000 pipe, wich I cant see it running good that way either.

My Cressida was this way. I removed the BOV hose off the 3000 pipe, sprayed carb cleaner/starting fluid into it, plugged it back and cranked and it would start. If it diesels, your coilpack, CPS, spark plugs, wires, igniters could be at fault. You might wanna pop plug number one to check if it has water in the valley in there.

Anyway, I got a question for you. How come this 91 Supra has a 86.5-88 bumper and no turbo on the GTE? Is it possible you can ask this guy about this car?

Yeah, the bumper was replaced. The paint was chipping and it was showing a little bit of red behind the white... the fenders were replaced as well.

he crashed it and put a seized motor in it. thats why there's no turbo .
seriously something is wrong with that. check the vin and double check everything. something very fishy there.

the car sounds like its a mess.. i'd stay away from it unless it was strictly for parts or severe restoration.
