Hello all,

New to this site. So glad I found it. I am a newb when it comes to Toyotas, but I've been around the EVO forums for a long time. I have one of the top autocross EVOs in the country. Currently is 2860#, has 440whp, 454tq on E-85. As the cubic dollars stop flowing into the EVO, I am going to move that funding over to start building my Supra.

I bought a 1JZ swapped '90 Supra drift car off eBay a few years ago. It has ran for about 1 week out of those few years. Needless to say Booze+eBay+1JZ Supra=FAIL. It was in horrible shape when I got it. All sorts of overheating issues and most of the dash and electronics didn't work. I spent about $4K getting it "fixed". Took it out to one drift day and the radiator exploded, it overheated, and spun a bearing (I think, haven't torn down the motor yet).

Fast forward a couple years to the present. I just bought a clean '92 Supra N/A A/T off eBay for under $2K. It has the same color body and interior as the old car. Hopefully this experience goes better than the first. I plan to use it as a DD and then as a parts car if I ever smash up the drift car. I am going to rebuild the drift car this fall/winter (after autocross season is over) and have it ready to go spring of '09. Plans are medium size single turbo (probably FP 35R HTA), 264 cams (JUN or HKS), standalone (probably AEM EMS). Conservative goals are 380-400whp on 93 octane, 450-470whp on VP Q16. I may also look at redoing the fuel lines and running E-85, as that's what I run in my EVO race car and it works awesome.

More to come later.

^Disagree with you there. ;)

It's actually one of the more popular turbos for 7M's, as it has good response, pretty quick spool and will make good power uptop.
On the flipside...I never quite understood if he meant he was going to rebuild the 1J and upgrade, or basically do the 7MGE-T build.

Either way, 35R will do fine for that power range. :)
But I get what you're saying, Sumeet....You can go a hell of a lot bigger. ;)

-EVOlutionary - Welcome to Supramania!
Sounds like for doing so little, you've had quite a handful with your Supra(s) so far!
To be honest...I wouldn't make that 92 a parts car.

I'll....spare you the troubles, and just let you sell me the '92 for cheap. :biglaugh:
(92 Supras are MUCH rarer than other years that the MA70 was made).

If I don't hear of much from you in time to come, just make sure to take advantage of Supramania and all of the great information stored on this site when the time comes for your build.
Good luck in the future.

7M/1JZ > 4G63.

Evolutionary, hi welcome to sm I am an evo owner as well I am assuming you are on evom.net? I am on that forum too. You will find that 380-400whp is fairly easy to attain in a supra. The 35r is a very popular turbo amongst the evo crowd. I am running a similar turbo called the sc61. I am also running 440awhp on pump. I was wandering how your car pairs up to the muellerized evo? Have you guys did any track events together?

Thanks guys for the warm welcome. I've already learned more in a couple days of reading here than I did in weeks of reading on a certain other forum.

Here are a couple pics:

To answer a couple questions: I am from the TriCities area of MI, Bay City, Saginaw, Midland.

I am planning on running a 1JZ, whichever car I put it in. If I swap into the '92 I will keep the stock twins, if I build the '90 I will go single turbo/standalone, simply due to cost. It will take more of my budget to start from scratch with a full front clip and a swap into the '92 so I will have less left for big power mods. . .

The reason I was thinking a FP 35R HTA for the turbo is because of response. This is going to be a drift car, rather than a highway or drag car, so I need great response and moderate power. I don't need 800hp. I figure a turbo the size of a 35R will give me a pretty fat powerband. Plus, on the EVO there are lots of guys pushing well into the 600-650 whp range when they max it out on race gas, so I KNOW it can flow enough air for my goals.

I mostly do autocross with the EVO. I think the Mueller car is a road racing car. Never seen it in person before. I am doing my first 2 NASA HPDE events this year in the EVO. My plans are to over the next couple years cut back on the AX races and get into more Time Trials/Time Attack stuff. That is the way the car is headed. . .

Later!!

Jeff: Just Assumed He was sticking with the 1JZ. I guess i hang around too many MK4 guys. ;)

EVO: Holy Wiring Nightmare Evo. I chickened Out and bought a 3 Core Aluminum Rad this time around, and does that car have the hydro fan? If so, that's bad ass and can't do any better than that for cooling. Love your lineup there, The Bomex Kit, and Duct look very nicely done. Welcome to the Board. :)

Evo, might as well go with a 2jz, leaving the stock twins in the 92. That 1jz car looks shot, and the wiring isn't too much different than the 1jz, the price is only a little more. If I had to do it again, I would have built a 2jz-gte auto MKIII.

EVO, well very interesting and indeed a very nice lineup you have there. Much like myself evo and mk3 supra. Except my evo isnt as ostentacious looking as yours is. Mine is just lowered with coil overs thats really all you can tell its modded and the tbe and fmic but mine is pretty much close to fully built.

As far as your autocross racing goes I hear you really cant do much to the powertrain is that true?

And yes the 35r has given people around 600-650awhp on race fuel. Many have gotten close with alky.

But nonetheless very nice evo and if you could how many different cars have you raced and conquered in that circuit? Just a quick rundown is ok. IM just really curious.

O btw, you dont have to worry about getting warrtaloned here lol im sure you know who that is. Everyone seems to be very nice and open to discussion.

Dude, that's awesome! First time I've heard Warrtalon used as a verb! Nice! I know exactly what you're talking about :icon_bigg He's a nice guy but can come across pretty rough some times!

In my class (StreetModified) drivetrain/powertrain is pretty much unlimited. You can do whatever you want with the trans, diffs, engine, turbos, etc. I just have cams, intake, exhaust, upgraded stock turbo, modifed rear diff, etc. . .

The one EVO that beat me at nationals last year was the AMS tuned EVO of Mark Daddio. He has won like 10 or 15 national championships in about every kind of car imaginable, so I count myself fortunate to even be close to keeping up with him. Sounds like quite a few guys are pretty fast this year, so there should be some good competition.

I just paid the deposit on the '92 Supra. I pick it up on Tuesday. Hope it turns out to be as clean and run as well as the eBay auction made it sound. Wish me luck!!

:biglaugh: Yeah I know its my little way of describing how clayton is sometimes. Its funny cause he does it to all the newbs but really like you said he is a pretty nice guy on a personal level once you get to know him.

Also I do know of the ams evo you are talking about that is one rediculously fast evo. I was trying to convey to some of the supra guys here to not underestimate the evo cause I have seen it beat built vipers and many other cars on circuit tracks. Lets put it this way AMS is just rediculous when it comes to building cars lol. Everything they touch is impressive same with buschur.

With me its a hit and miss with the evo community but then again you cant please everyone. I dont know if you ever remember a vendor called RnR racing? Well they are no longer in business with the help of me and others due to poor business so there are some haters out there. :biglaugh: .

Well hope it all works out with the supra. I think you will be pretty impressed with this car even though its like 16yrs old.

EVO, btw what cams did you go with and how did u upgrade the stock turbo? Did you have the 9.8 housing and upgraded to the 10.5? And just curious as to which intake did you go with? Did you go with an induction box type because usually a coned air intake with the stock turbo the evos dont run very well with it.
