89 turbo ecu question

I have an a manual 89 turbo supra that needs an ecu, I know someone who is selling one locally, but I dont know if it will work? The ecu in question is for a 91 turbo but its for an automatic tranny, Will that work for my car? My car is not NA-T, it is a stock turbo 5 speed.

its going to depend. look at your current ecu.

if the plugs are grey - you can use the 89+ ecu.
if the plugs are yellow - you need to find a pre 89 ecu.

yes you can run an auto tranny ecu in an manual car.

I am going to find out from the mechanic tommorrow whether it's a yellow or gray plug

ECU is above the glovebox, you can check what color it is REALLY easy.

just out of courisity why do you think you need an ecu? minus a few reports of people hooking up their battery backward our ecus are pretty bullet proof ({and no-flashable.... freaking toyota...)

The mechanic that is working on my car tells me it needs an ecu. My car wouldnt start because it had a bad cps, I fixed that but now the mechanic said that only four of the cylinders are working. 1 and 6 do not inject gasoline into the cylinders, it has compression and spark but no gas?
The car turns on, but it struggles alot. I have already ordered the ecu from a member on here, so Im just waiting for that to arrive.:biglaugh:
My supra was dead for a long ass time, it had a bad cps. I actually used this site to find out it was the cps ( extremely useful site). What do you think might be wrong with the car?

clogged injectors could do that, bad wiring to the injectors, a few things really. might want to contact supraguy88t as hes pretty good with the mk3 to say the least (has his own shop) if its a mk3 he can fix it.

we have a pile of bad ecu's at work, not too common but becoming more so as toyota is cutting corners like everyone else. Before replacing you have to check everything but seeing how we have eachother for parts you don't have to worry about putting in a 1200.00 ecu that is not the problem.

I will talk to the mechanic tommorrow to mention these suggestions, but if it doesnt work out I will try to talk to supraguy88t. On a side note, I purchased a 57 trim ct-26 from a local seller today for $250:naughty:. I'm not going to install it until I can afford to get all the supporting mods, for now I just want my car to run. My mods as of right now:
full 3 inch exhaust
after market air filter
knock off hks ssqv BOV

I need to replace all the vacum hoses, if anybody has any suggestions on where I can pick up a blue set for my car I would appreciate it. This coming weekend I am going to be picking up some IC hard pipes, and an intercooler. In about two weeks I will buy a 3 inch divorced down pipe, and all the fluids (synthetic of course), ngk iridium spark plugs, ngk spark plug wires, oil filter, and a fuel filter. All these things will be installed before I drive my car again. If anybody has an A\C compressor they would like to sell please pm me, depending on price and condition I will gladly take it off your hands. Thanks for all the help and tips guys. :wave:

How much HP should I expect to be at once I have these items installed, minus the upgraded ct-26 ( with no tune)?:aigo:
