for common questions like this, you really need to search. this is a common upgrade among pre-89 people. they bolt right on. you'll most likely have to drill a small (1/4") hole or two on each side. other than that, it's a bolt on affair.

also, if/when you do this, get new tail light seals, and put a little RTV sealer around each hole. it cant hurt ;)

good idea. also if memory serves you will need to get an 89+ lock as the pre 89 lock dosent fit right inside. :icon_razz

huh? you just confused the hell out of me :p

if your car is an 86.5-88, then any 86.5-88 tails will bolt on with absolutely no modification.

if your car is an 86.5-88 and you put on 89+ style tails, then you'll have to drill a couple of holes, and as stanzaspeed mentioned, get a new lock cylander...

i'm assuming you mean:

"ok they are 89+ lights so they should bolt up to my 88..."

the answer is YES, but with some slight modification to the body of your car.

and with a bit of time swearing at the tight spaces you need to get into to bolt everything up. :biglaugh:

they are right i did it recently.... if you put the lights where they are supposed to go you will see where you will need to drill the holes for the bolts. then you just have to get a lock from a 89+ supra for the rear. I just got a whole lock set and switched them all out.

I got my 86.5 lock to fit FINE! just break off the little clips to hold the 89+ lock and put a small screw into the centre piece to hold it in, not enough to get to the inside, now i have no idea how well this is going to work because i painte dover my centre piece and therefore can not see if the screw is visable from the outside. But damn does the metal lick everl ook nicer then the orange one. Also it is possible to keep your old mouldings too so they still match, A bit of work but mine are looking fine.
