89' Supra Turbo Project

[MySupra]

So, I decided to use a 89' Supra as my first project car base.

So, the engine at the moment won't start.

When I towed the car to my place the targa top flew off because the owner did not have it secure. :/

Issues from the start.
- No Battery
- Distributor was opened and broken. "Mechanic must of fiddled with it.."
- Starter was no longer good.
- Crankshaft was stuck, got it turning but still rough. "Working on taking the Crankshaft nut off."
- Targa top was destroyed during tow.

Changes done
- Starter has been replaced with a new refurbished one. "$82 at Autozone"
- New targa top was bought from a salvaged Supra.

UPDATE:
I was bored and had nothing to do so I sanded off rust out of the interiors back side pads and painted them black.

Targa Top was found and fitted on the top.

And, the Engine is finally turning. We had spark but who knows what happened and now we lost it.

Update - 01/16/2012
- We took it for a spin around to block only to find a blown head gasket. Towing the car to my mom's warehouse for some motor pulling.

- Found a nice non turbo Supra shell that I can buy for a second project.

UPDATE: Ordered a OEM Distributor off eBay from California wonder how long till I receive here in Houston.

you definetly have some work ahead. what are your ultimate plans for the car? upgrades? suspension? engine swap (if any)?

You forgot to mention another issue; the stripes on the hood lol.

My current plans are to just get it running.
Future dream plan, is to re-do interior, new paint job, sound system, the works.

Yes, I'm keeping the 7M-GTE Engine. Paint job will take car of the stripes.

Your putting money into a motor that is more then likely seized

The pully is no longer stuck though, it cranks. Starter fixed that. Now have to try a new distributor to check the spark.

You need a cps if your car has a turbo engine (7mgte). Distirbutor is only for the non turbo engine (7mge)

Have you checked fuel flow?

Well, we lost spark so we are working on that. Seems like we might have to replace the CPS or Ignitor.

We re-did the engine harness, going to give it another try soon.

The car turned on! I replaced the CPS and the spark came back. Car is back to life. Just need to give it a tune up.

Yeah these cars are fun but the issue is that they are rare. The parts were hard as hell to find here in Houston.

Just need to setup the cooling system and exhaust and this baby is ready for the road.

Update - I took the car for it's first spin around the block and it started smoking heavaly through the exhaust. Blown Head Gasket.
I can no longer work on this car in front of my house, taking it to my parents warehouse were I may continue the project.
