Okay everyone. I have a '89 Supra hardtop. Sadly.. when the car was sold off the lot in '89 the dealership put a sunroof in. It's the glass one, and it's ugly.

I am going to have it taken out and welded to be back to normal, or I am going to install my '92 Teal Sunroof in there. I am wondering if I do some cutting, and stuff if it will fit. I have the complete sunroof, and headliner, so I am ahead of the game.

These idea's may be retarded, ethier way the sunroof I have now is GOING.

The car will be going in for a paint job in the next month, I am goign to go with black, it's silver and I really do not think the silver from the factory on these cars look all that great.

So yeah input please!

I have the same dilemma. I'd love to have some pics of the interior roof of the 91 sunroof model to see how it mounts, I don't feel like tearing my 91 apart.

I'd go hardtop if I were you. The Sunroof is one of the worst ideas out there. It doesn't matter if it is glass or metal, it will still find a way to leak. Targa is similar as well. Now a sunroof cut into a targa top??????????? Why not just install a hose?

While making no claims to be any expert in anything other than sarcasm, I think some pictures and measurements would really help in getting an informed response.

Without any numbers, images, sizes, and measurements, you're expecting someone to just guess.

So, realistically it'll be a piece of cake, let me get you the plasma cutter!

Keep it hardtop, they are more rare to come by, and lighter.

Well I will weld in a plate I think. I don't really want sunroof anyhow. I am pissed there is already one in there, morons thought it would be nice, to bad the glass sunroofs look like shit.

Personally, trying to weld the roof and getting it back to perfect isn't going to be cheap, and I wouldn't attempted it.

Trying to put the sunroof (moonroof is glass) in is going to be even more of a hassle. Meep in mind that if you screw up you can seriously effect the structure of the car (you DON'T have the added bracing the targas do)

Also, good working sun/moon roofs don't leak.

I hate my moonroof and yes it leaks so i dont drive it on rainy days.
I price to have another sunroof installed and it was $1200 bucks. Ouch.

Doubt it. But if it ever does, I'll replace the seal and it will be good to go for another 15+ years or better. I sold my daily driver in 2008, 1982 Celica with a factory power sunroof, and it never leaked one drop the entire time I owned it either - 26 years and over 300k on the original sunroof gasket. My 300ZX with t-tops is another story - I get a shower every time it rains or I go through a car wash and replacement gaskets are over $300 per side. :aigo:
