89 Styling but Dealersd say 1990 Car and so does Regi

Hi Everyone

Just wanted to get everyone take on this.

I supposedly have a 1990 Turbo. But all the Body Markings and Steering wheel tell me i have an 89. I check with the Registration and the Dealer and they confirmed it is a 90. The MFR Plates confirms this. I was just wondering if this is really possible or is there something funky.

I am also asking since i want to get a TSRM but I’m not sure which to get. If my memory serves me right. I think there are some wiring differences between the two years. I don’t really know what else beside the steering wheel and air bag.

Is it Possible that Toyota Made the Car and then Re-Plated it as a 90 Since it did not leave the factory in time to be Called a 89??????

It was probably in a collision where the airbag deployed and the people that repaired it cheaped out on replacing the airbag...

I Also Confirmed absolutly No Colisions at all with this Car.

still does not explain the badge on the front either it is a SUPRA Badge the red one like on the 89 and earlier but not the oval with horns like on 90 and later??

Someone may have replaced the nosepiece, maybe they liked the older style.

Look at the 10th digit of the VIN, if it is a L then it is a 90, if it is a K it is an 89.

Thanks for the Link. I am planning on buying the actual book. Since i would like to have something in high quality print in hand.

Well its the nose piece and the stearing wheel. There is no Lever on the Collom for Cruise its still on the steeringwheel. Which tells me the badging and the steering wheel were supposed to come like that.

I doubt someone would go through all the trouble to change all that just for a 89 style wheel. it it help as far and i can see there looks like there is 6 speakers inside the car.

If is really confounding.

I also know that the person i bought the car from was the third Person to own the Car. ( He said he never changed anything on the car )

He purchased it from he Buddy who Had the Car From when it was 2 or 3 years old. That was the guy who put the mags on and lowered the car. Plus the Exhaust.

It is just really odd about the Badging and steering wheel. Are the style of and 89.

/\ ditto.. i had a 90 hardtop and it had the supra badge and my 91 has the toyota emblem.

90 Canadian Supras that didn't come with an airbag carried over the 89 steering wheel, so that is most likely original to the car as well.

Me too.. I even have a Canadian model with no airbag and the headlight sqirters.

Airbag was added in 1992 for Canada. We had the "89 style" for 89-91. The front badge changed in 91, as did the body mouldings. The headlight squirters were discontinued in the USA for 89, and kept being made for Canada.
