I have an 89 turbo 5 spd that I had the head rebuilt on and now it only boosts at like 4 psi according to the gauge, and sometimes wont boost. The car sat for awhile after i put the head on. The wastegate is shimmed so I know I should have alot more boost than this. Any ideas??

I think a boost leak that big would be more noticeable, ie. black smoke, extremely poor aceleration.

I would look more at clogged cats or something along those lines. Something that would restrict boost but not necessarily leak it.

Meaning wrong. Could be either way. We all know the stocker is slow, but how far off it reads boost will differ with each car.

deflicted.. i mean.. it just varys gauge to gauge how off it is, because some gauge are more messed up than others. I'm not sure how accurate a prestine gauge would be, but I'm sure they're somewhat accurate.

Edit: ^Exactly, beat me to it ^

definitely get an aftermarket boost gauge if you are modding your car. . .my aftermarket one is already up to about 5psi before my stock one even moves. When your gauge doesn't read any boost, does the car still feel like it pulls as hard?
